W.T.F. "W.T.F./Trivia" "Whale Whores/Trivia" "The F Word/Trivia" The F Word

This page contains trivia for "Whale Whores". Remember, trivia must be factual, provable, and it is always best to cite your source for not-so-obvious trivia. If you would like to dispute a trivia point, please discuss it in the talk page.

Trivia

  • The Japanese men frequently shout "Iruka!" (イルカ) meaning "Dolphin!"
    • Japanese Prime Minister Hatoyama shouts "Nippon no gaijin! Kuso, taberu na!" (日本 の 外人! 糞たべるな!) meaning "Foreigner! Eat shit!")
  • The aircraft in the Kamikaze scene are Mitsubishi A6M Zeros, with Nakajima B5N torpedo bombers ("Kates") in the background.
  • Even though Paul Watson, the captain of the Sea Shepard on Whale Wars, is a Canadian citizen, he is portrayed in a more realistic way than the two halved heads usually seen.
  • When Stan chides Kenny and Cartman for not giving a crap about whales before, Cartman quips that he was actually talking about "Wales the country." Though Welsh jabs may or may not be common enough in the UK, it is still a running gag, at least to the Welsh, that the entire region could go missing and England proper wouldn't care nor notice at all.
  • Kyle states that it would be hard to change how an entire country views something when discussing the Japanese and Dolphins with Stan. Ironically, Kyle did just that with Cuba and Fidel Castro in "The Wacky Molestation Adventure".

References to Popular Culture

  • Eric Cartman sings the hit pop song, "Poker Face", by Lady Gaga, which is he uses to insult Stan and his whale saving mission by changing the words. This later inspired a release of the full song as sung by Cartman that is featured as downloadable content for the Rock Band video game, which was released in March 16, 2010.
  • The reality TV series' Whale Wars and The Deadliest Catch are shown to be rivals fighting each other and not just competing shows as in real life.
  • When the Whale Wars intro is first shown, the side of the Sea Shepard has the code: "TK-421", which is a reference to Star Wars.
  • The Whale Wars crew use a model of Godzilla to scare of the Japanese, the word the Japanese yell is Gojira! which is Japanese for Godzilla; this model of Godzilla is based on the 2004 Godzilla from Godzilla: Final Wars with the green skin color of the 1999-2000 Godzilla which is from Godzilla 2000 and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus.
  • The Deadliest Catch boat that appears and tries to block the whale boat is the F/V Northwestern with Captain Sig Hansen and his crew.
  • When the Japanese killed the dolphins in the Baltimore Aquarium, if you look at the crowd, you can see somebody's yellow spiked hair that resembles Bart Simpson's hair.

Continuity

  • In "Chinpokomon", the Japanese, under Emperor Hirohito, wanted to avenge their defeat in World War II by perpetrating another Pearl Harbor attack but here, under Emperor Akihito, they are grateful for learning that a whale and a dolphin were responsible for the bombing on Hiroshima. Stan was about to tell the truth, but Cartman reminded him that the Japanese were out to annihilate anyone responsible for that bombing.

Goofs

  • During the scene where Cartman, Kyle, and Kenny are playing Rock Band, when they show the TV screen, it shows a full 4-Man band, when there are only 3 people playing.
    • Also there aren't vocals, and the song on-screen isn't "Poker Face".
  • Beluga whales are seen at the Atlanta Zoo when really the Atlanta Zoo doesn't have them; the Georgia Aquarium does.
  • Whale Wars is filmed in the oceans around the Antarctic and Deadliest Catch is filmed near the Arctic, so the two ships would not normally cross paths.
  • Orcas, while commonly referred to as whales, are actually classified as a species of dolphin.
  • Emperor Akihito tells Stan, Kenny, and Cartman that after the Hiroshima bombing, Americans gave them a photo and the next day the Japanese ended the war. However, the United States would actually drop a nuclear bomb on Nagasaki three days after Hiroshima as the Japanese were still refusing to surrender. Japan only officially surrendered six days after the second bombing.
