South Park Archives

Hello everybody, HighJewElfKing here. Recently we conducted a survey on the wiki to learn how we can improve and do better at giving all of you South Park information.

In this blog post, I'll share the results and address what we'll be doing to improve the wiki, based on your feedback.

I'm going to start off by sharing the results of the multiple choice questions, and I'll address some of the biggest things mentioned in the text fields later on.

Charts/ Percentages[]

Question 1: South Park Archives is easy to navigate around[]

Q1Data

We're very happy with the results of this question. Navigation here on the wiki has been especially important to me because you may all be familiar with another South Park wiki out there, who usually does not do very well in this category. Sure there is room for improvement, especially with mobile and game navigation, which I'll talk about later.

Question 2: South Park Archives is up to date with South Park Content[]

Q2Data

We are very happy that a majority of people say we are up to date with content. However, 34% of users saying we need work is an issue for me. I'm aware that we are currently lacking in some areas, character names, Fractured But Whole and certain things from the current season. Right now, the MAIN priority is to focus on keeping main things from the episodes up to date, like plots, scripts, character prominence, and songs. We already have two projects planned that will start immediately after the season to address things missed or overlooked during the season like objects and locations. Shortly after that one is complete, we have another project planned to update character articles and article content/ grammar.

Question 3: What do you use South Park Archives for[]

Q3Data

Percentages[]

  • Character information: 84.09%
  • Episode information: 77.27%
  • Scripts: 37.12%
  • Episode images: 29.55%
  • Fractured But Whole Information: 30.30%
  • South Park Merchandise information: 8.33%
  • Connecting with other South Park Fans: 12.88%
  • Other: 9.09%

A majority of users said they use the wiki for Character information. In my opinion, Character information is at the core of South Park Archives. Our Character section is very large and robust. Again, some character names and details of them need to be tweaked, and it is on the agenda after the season. Episode information is also very important and I know for a fact that section is covered very well here. Housing episode scripts is what makes South Park Archives very unique, and we pride ourselves on having them here. Scripts take a long time to do and I'm very proud of how fast we turn them out after an episode airs, with most scripts up before the following episode the next week. Episode images also are critical to the wiki, I've been in charge of them this season and I assure all of you putting up as many high-quality episode images as possible is my number one priority. Fractured But Whole information is very new to our wiki and is a focus for us, I'll explain more on that later. Merchandise is a section of the wiki that does need to be redesigned and we'll be working on that next year. Also happy to see people connecting with other fans on the wiki, which is easier than ever with Discussions, Discord and Forums/ Blog Posts.

Question 4: Do you approve of the current administration on South Park Archives[]

Q4Data As the lead Bureaucrat here, how I interact and how the rest of the admins here interact with all of you and run this wiki is very important. Our job here is to maintain order here on the wiki and ensure everything runs smoothly. We aren't perfect, no one is. But I know for a fact we do our absolute best for this wiki. I'm so proud of the team on this wiki (Jamesb1, PissCoveredOcelot, Jackstanbrah). South Park Archives did have a few past administrators and team of administrators who were often perceived as harsh and unfriendly. Personally, after having to work alongside one of them for seven months, I've learned how we can do things differently and allow everybody here to have their say to prevent this unfriendly perception issue from happening again. It's our goal here to be open, transparent and willing to find solutions to problems instead of jumping to conclusions and banning users, especially users who criticize us. If you were one of the users who chose "Disapprove", I'd like you to reach out to me on Discord so we can discuss what we can do better (Same goes for users who have any more feedback for us), We are always open for your feedback on how we do, positive or negative.

Feedback and Action regarding it[]

In this section, I'll share some of the responses you left us and what we are doing about these issues.

  • "The ability to set a default character variant on character images would be nice (default Cartman to no-hat instead of normal, for instance), but it is unnecessary."

This would have to be an issue addressed by FANDOM but again we continue to expand the character pages with the new tabbed infoboxes, which allow more images to be shown on the character infobox instead of just one image shown there.

  • "I would remove all the stubs on South Park Archives"

South Park Archives used to have a fair amount of stubs, but the stubs project has been marked as completed and the stubs category shows no articles requiring attention. Some new articles are blank and could be considered a stub. Any possible "stubs" left should be addressed in the projects after the season. If anybody does notice a stub on an old article, please leave the article in the comments below.

  • "Maybe include some interviews or behind the scenes"

Because the people at South Park Studios have their own wiki and just love and support us sooooo much, conducting interviews with Matt and Trey or anybody from South Park for that matter is far-fetched. (We'd certainly be welcome to do interviews with SP though, in fact, we'd love to!) But, episode behind the scenes is something that we are working on implementing in the image pages for episodes this season and a project after the season will add them to other episode image pages.

  • "Maybe translate it to other languages"

This has been addressed. We have a translate button that shows up in most articles and pages that throws the webpage into Google Translate where you can translate it to a huge amount of different languages. South Park Archives also has localized versions on FANDOM, you can find the full list below

Localized Versions of SPA[]

  • "I came here through Fractured But Whole, but the wiki page was pretty much empty with no links to the characters, at least on mobile. If there could be more text and links to other relevant articles it would be better"

Two big issues here, Fractured But Whole and the Mobile version of the wiki. First and foremost starting off with FBW, as I've said countless times, South Park Archives wasn't made for video games. The process of adding game content onto SPA is like building a wiki within a wiki, it requires lots of new templates, changes to navigation and of course time to do all of that as well as make the content. We have projects planned after Season 21 to add all FBW and Phone Destroyer content to the wiki. This project should kick off in January and we plan to have everything done by late March/ Early April. In the meantime, we will work on expanding our gaming section whenever possible. For now, we cover some game missions, achievements, and some of the characters. In the meantime, we thank all of you for your understanding and patience. In terms of the wiki on mobile devices, FANDOM uses a different architecture on mobile devices and apps which affects templates and other things on mobile, as a result sometimes templates and navigational aspects don't always appear well, or at all on mobile devices. We're doing all we can here to make the experience better for mobile users, without changing the experience for our desktop users. Otherwise, improvements to the wiki on mobile devices are up to FANDOM.

  • "I use the scripts mainly to find out what Kenny is saying. Sometimes it's not entirely accurate or it's not there at all."

This isn't something I'm aware of, but it will certainly be investigated and a possible scripts renovation project will be planned if something out of the ordinary is found in multiple scripts. (If you wrote that and see this, please reach out to me on Discord)

  • "Some pages need some info, characters outside of the main four especially"

Already planned to be fixed in a project.

  • "Episode categories could be improved upon"

Again, something that will be investigated. Categories are very important to navigation here on SPA, and something we always try to keep up to date and well organized. (If you wrote that and see this, please reach out to me on Discord)

  • "More Fractured But Whole character and attacks info / Making the webpages mobile-friendly would be a great benefit. / Video game media."

Pretty sure I addressed this earlier. Both things mentioned above will be addressed in the projects after the season

  • "Some inaccuracies"

As I said, projects after the season should address that issue.

  • "When looking through the Trivia section on a character or episode, i'm usually looking for comments made by the creators, possible inspiration or other things "behind the scenes". Maybe include that sort of stuff in it's own section. I would also like it if on episode pages there was an explanation of what controversial events were the inspiration behind the episode"

Very interesting idea. We do cover an episode's controversial events in trivia, but we'll look into how to fit BTS sections into trivia, image and episode pages after the season.

Final Recap[]

I really thank all of you for your feedback on the wiki. We continue to discuss the results and feedback and work on improving things here for everybody based on your suggestions. If you didn't get a chance to leave feedback, feel free to reach out on Discord or on My Wall as we always welcome it. Thank you all for your support and I'll see you all on the wiki and on Sunday for details on the new episode next week! Until then, Take Care!
