- This is the first appearance of Richard Adler and Craig Tucker's family (his dad Thomas Tucker, his mom Laura Tucker, and his sister Tricia Tucker).

- This episode features many live action segments involving the flashbacks Mr. Adler had.
- There are at least two reasons why Kenny joined home economics instead of shop class.
- The first reason is that Kenny is surrounded by girls in home economics, which someone like him would really enjoy.
- The second reason is that Kenny had a fear of shop class; a fear of the saws, drills, and other dangerous equipment.
- This is one few suggestions in the early seasons that Kenny is fully aware of his proneness to dying.
- The song played while Kenny envisions the tools is a snippet of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition movement IX. Baba Yaga.
- This is the final episode to air before South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut was released. It aired exactly one week before the film was released.
- Mr. Adler is based on a teacher Matt Stone had in elementary school.
- On a poster in shop class telling students to wear safety goggles, the child drawn on the poster appears to be Kevin Stoley.
- On the Nishimura School of Martial Arts building along with Judo, Karate, and Jujitsu, it lists Scratching and Biting and Bar Room Brawling.

- The HD version of this episode adds Lizzy to the crowd of kids in the lunchroom while Cartman informs them about the fight, ahead of her debut in "Hooked on Monkey Fonics".
- Tweek and Craig would later have another physical confrontation in the Season Nineteen episode "Tweek x Craig".
- The last sentence Craig said before the fight is Cartman's catchphrase: "Respect my authority".
- While not introduced until the episode "Hooked on Monkey Fonics", a girl seen in the home economics class bears a resemblance to Rebecca Cotswolds except with a slightly different curly hairstyle and her hair is coloured red. She sits next to Kenny.
References to Popular Culture[]
- Mr. Adler's dream is a reference to the 1987 film Robocop. In the film, Robocop would have memories of his previous life (believed purged by his creators) of his wife and children.
- The boys are weighing in both Tweek and Craig in much the same fashion that the International Boxing Association does to inform the audience of a boxer's weight class, victories, and statistics.
- Pearl tells Bebe to "dump that zero and get yourself a hero", which was a common catch phrase uttered by former daytime talk show host Ricki Lake when giving dating advice to female guests on her show. Her show ran from 1993 to 2004.
- During one of Mr. Adler's flashbacks about his fiancé, she says "It's all for you Richard". This is another reference to the 1976 horror film The Omen. The line is uttered by a young nanny (Holly Palance) to Damien.
- Mr. Adler's solution to Tommy belt sanding off his face is using Hydrogen peroxide, which is commonly used as a disinfectant.
- When teaching Tweek how to box, Jimbo teaches him the "Oppenheimer technique" which involves hitting your opponent in the balls. This is likely a reference to J. Robert Oppenheimer, who was one of the American scientists being part of the Manhattan Project, which developed the first atomic weapons.
- A parody of "Gonna Fly Now", the theme song from the 1976 film Rocky, plays as the kids walk towards the tether-ball pole.
- A poster of a boxer with the words "THE BROWN BOMBER" can be seen at the gym Tweek trains at. This is presumably a reference to Joe Louis, an American heavyweight boxing champion who was given the nickname "The Brown Bomber".
Continuity[]

- When Stan and Kyle accuse Tweek of being the biggest trouble-maker in their class, Tweek is seen with four hands instead of two: two attached to his arms, two on his chin.
- When Stan talks to Mr. Adler, at the beginning of the episode, the orange pencil cup on Mr. Adler's desk changes position after he looks at his fiancé's picture.
- When Adler's picture of his wife is first shown, her head is leaning left. Every other time it is shown, her head is tilting the other way.
- Kenny goes to Shop Class despite the class being over, though he might have been staying after class to make up the work he missed.
- In the scene where Mr. Adler's wife's plane starts to crash, when blood appears on her face, it can be seen squirting in from the left.
- In the scene where the children go to the hospital to see Tweek and Craig, Wendy's legs are missing as they all walk in.
