  • Ned Gerblanski receives his first speaking role in an episode since Season Five's "Here Comes the Neighborhood", which aired about 17 years ago.
  • Al Gore returns; aside from South Park: The Stick of Truth his last significant role was a brief appearance in the Imaginationland saga.
  • ManBearPig seen to be in reality for the second time after "Imaginationland, Episode II". However, it is confirmed to be a demon and not a fictional character. This currently conflicts with its place in Imaginationland prior, as it could not have been an imaginary character if it was always real.
  • Real life restaurant chains Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Baskin Robbins are shown in this episode.

References to Popular Culture

  • The episode heavily references Red Dead Redemption 2 , particularly with Harrison Yates. More than once he references the feature of being able to rob trains amongst other gameplay references.
  • Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope is alluded to when AL Gore says of his own name, "that's a name I haven't heard in a long time", in a similar fashion to the character Obi Wan.
  • Real life news reels including Al Gore are seen in Olive Garden. They include him:
    • On the campaign trail in 2000 during his bid to become U.S. President with his wife, Tipper and his running mate, Joe Lieberman.
    • WithHillary Clinton during the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election.
    • With George W. Bush in front of his official residence after conceding the 2000 Presidential election.
    • Walking the red carpet with his family in 2007 after being nominated for an Oscar for his film, An Inconvenient Truth.
  • Schongauer's The Temptation of Saint Anthony is seen in the library and used to evidence the existence of Manbearpig and his origins as a demon.
  • The episode mock PSAs in general but in particular those promoting libraries by enthusing about how important the 'local library' is.
  • Al tells the boys that he invented the internet after showing them his computer. This is a reference to an often misquoted line in which Gore actually claimed that he "took the initiative in creating the Internet", in reference to him promoting the development of internet technology during his time as Vice President.

Continuity

  • Like the scientists and security in "Imaginationland, Episode II", Stan fumbles over how to describe Manbearpig.
  • A picture of Kyle and his elephant is seen in his room, referencing "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig".

Goofs

  • Al Gore mentions that it would be "bitchin' sweet" to play Red Dead Redemtion 2 on his computer with all three monitors. The game was only released on Xbox One and Playstation 4 during the original airing of the episode.
  • Stan mentions that his uncle was attacked and his friend was carried away, though only Ned is shown to be attacked and carried away while Jimbo watched in horror.
  • Some of Manbearpig's footprints are shaped like a bear. However, both its feet are shaped like a pig's.
