  • Hi, welcome to South Park Archives! Thanks for your contribution to Episode Pages!

    • There's a lot to do around here, so we hope you'll continue to contribute!
    • Recent Changes is a great first stop, because you can see what pages other people have been editing, and where you can help.
    • Questions? You can ask on the forum, or post a message on my message wall!
    • Need more help? The Community Portal and the Manual of Style have an outline of the site and links to pages to help you learn how to edit.
    • Remember to sign in every time you edit, so that we can recognize an established user.
    • Please read the Rules and Policies before you make anymore edits.
    • We're really happy to have you here, and look forward to working with you!

    • Thanks for the automated welcome but your Administrators would need to read these Wikia guidelines and make the appropriate changes to their exclusive editing policies before I'd even consider contributing. I'm not going to sit at the kid's table of Trivia.

    • The admins who made these guidelines have left the wiki. Please let me know on my message board the changes you have in mind.

    • The link leads to a subject that has been deleted and does not have anything to do with your topic. I find no fault in our guidelines and rules. If you are joking or trying to disparage this wiki's admins, I suggest you stop. Thank you.

While I always strive to infuse my writing with humor, I assure you that I wasn't joking. I made a mistake with the link and have corrected it here. The admins to whom I am referring are those taking part in this conversation and it doesn't look like they've left the wiki at all. I am not disparaging them but making an accusation. As the administrator of a popular wiki, I am very familiar with junk edits and understand the desire to assign editing duties to a trusted few. However, that is not how a wiki works. What you've set up here is a cabal and it is a violation of Wikia policies and the very concept of a wiki.

    • Though I must admit that fascism makes for a great looking wiki. Kudos for that.

    • I did not write the rules. My approach is more democratic with editors and am trying to get more contributors here. The reason the rules are harsh is to keep out the vandals. There was a time when this wiki was under attack constantly. If the rules were to be amended, all of the admins would have to agree on the changes. If you do not like the rules, then don't follow them.

    • OK then. We are in agreement.

    • Because of my decision to retire at the end of this season, I am not required to participate in discussions pertaining to future rule changes. However, I will still provide my imput, which may be taken into account by the current administrators should they choose to do so.

First of all, even though I personally didn't write the rules, I won't deny my responsibility in accepting and enforcing them. Your accusation of violating Wikia policies is simply false. South Park Archives isn't bound by Wikia's guidelines; a guideline is, as the name suggests, a set of instructions that may or may not be followed by others. Second, nobody here ever said users can only edit Trivia pages. In that wall thread, I wasn't exclusively listing all pages that can be edited by non-staff members; they were just examples.

The decision to distribute on-season tasks among members was made before I came here. Having never inquired the rationale behind this decision, I just inferred it was for practicality reasons. For example, adding a new episode script can take more than 45 minutes. What would you think if you found out that someone else already did it when you try to save the page, after your hard work? Plus, experienced users can be trusted more to maintain the high quality of this wiki. Now you may be asking yourself, "Where can I get this experience if you don't allow me to edit anything?", which would be a legitimate question, except we don't really 'not allow you to edit anything'. There is still a lot to improve on already existing articles; accusing us of making exclusive editing policies would be unfair for just restricting access to on-season tasks.

In my opinion, we could somewhat relax the policies to be more welcoming to newcomers. For instance, other users may be allowed to take on an administrator's task if they fail to do it in a certain time frame. Also, I wouldn't object to amending the current policy on article creation, as I have occasionally come across some users who followed the guidelines almost perfectly despite not having previous experience here.

Lastly, I would never tell a user to not follow the rules, no matter how much I disagree with the rules, without having discussed the matter with other active administrators. However, I have no control over how other administrators act, especially after waiveing my administrator status.

    • I will miss you Nightquest. Thank you for this response. I could not have written this as logically as you have.

I would first add this handy template to the wiki and use it before I began a lengthy edit.

You are right though. There IS a difference between a policy and a guideline. Violating a guideline isn't usually an actionable offense. However, it is still an offense. As can be inferred from my response, I didn't find Danny's treatment very welcoming. He was flat out told to stop making completely valid edits by someone who believed they had exclusivity to ALL episode pages. I don't know the guy but Danny is an experienced editor and an Admin of the Misfits Wiki. If he could be so harshly received then what hope for the average newcomer? Granted that most people don't get here by clicking a link on his profile on another wiki.

    • That was HP Bloodshed's decision. Nightquest or I will tell him not to do that again. I will apologize to DannyJC13 on HPB's behalf. I am sorry for the mistreatment, his edit should have been acceptable and HP should wait his turn. Wiki's are a group effort. First come first served should be the rule.

    • Posts like that one are why I wish Wikia would enable the Kudos button on all threads not just the forum.

    • OGRastamon: The reason I asked DannyJC13 not to make the episode pages was because I wanted to maintain quality on the pages. Danny did do an acceptable job, however. I was trying to keep episode pages from being created by users who wouldn't do an acceptable job, since it can sometimes be a nightmare to clean up. I shouldn't have said not to create the pages. However, I had good intentions behind what I said. I don't think I have exclusivity to the episode pages.

      Nightquest: Well said, as always.

Aguziel: We should amend the outdated rules rather than tell someone not to follow them. You have the power to help change the rules rather than ignore them and not follow the ones we have now.

Sorry. Doing major article overhauls at AHS. Have just the time for intermittent snarkiness.
