The Unified Theory of Moderation is a theory theorized by Randy Marsh, in the episode "Spontaneous Combustion". It basically states that people should only fart every once in awhile, instead of never farting and then spontaneously combusting or always farting and making a hole in the ozone layer and causing a massive heat wave.

After townspeople in South Park start combusting, Randy is hired by Mayor McDaniels to figure out why and fix it. He figures out that people need to fart or else they will build up and explode. He originally tells everyone to fart whenever they need to. This eventually tears a hole in the ozone layer, causing a massive heat wave. Dr. Alphonse Mephesto, who is jealous of Randy for receiving the Nobel Prize, reveals that the heat is due to Randy. After being shunned by the town, Randy eventually figures out that people should only fart every once and awhile.
