Trivia

• This is the first appearance of Thomas and Nellie McElroy.
• This episode is one of the first to strongly hint that Mr. Garrison is gay.
• A succubus is a demon of mythical origin; the female equivalent of an incubus. It is a female demon that tempts men into committing "Acts of sin and fornication" and to steal souls of men through sexual contact. However, mythology states that a succubus exists in the dreams of men, not normally appearing as a physical being.
• Kenny dies two times in this episode. The first time is when the boys are waiting for Chef and the second time is when he was crushed by the Succubus.
• In the classroom, a picture depicting a white Tolkien as "star student" can be seen on the wall.
• First appearance of Mr. Derp, and also the only time the character is given dialogue and real screen-time. He is a background character every time else.
• In the original Comedy Central commercial for the episode, Veronica Crabtree was shown as the new Chef.
• Cartman has astigmatism, an ocular problem which makes it difficult to focus on objects.
• Chef's father is convinced that he is being tormented by the Loch Ness Monster, a creature said to live in lake Loch Ness in Scotland.
• According to Chef's dad, the Loch Ness Monster is a crustacean from the Proterozoic era. Crustaceans are sea creatures like shrimp or krill, which is inconsistent with the popular Loch Ness myth that identifies the creature as being a surviving Plesiosaur. The Plesiosaur was an aquatic reptile that existed during the Mesozoic era which ended 65 million years ago, versus the Proterozoic era which ended roughly 542 million years ago.
• At the end of the episode, Cartman's optometrist asks him if he has $3.50, possibly meaning he is the monster in disguise, or just continuing the joke.
• During Chef’s duet with Veronica, he is voiced by Trey Parker instead of his usual voice actor, Isaac Hayes.

References to Popular Culture

• Chef was at the library looking up books on the Kama Sutra, an ancient Hindu text that is the standard of human sexuality.
• The receptionist at Steinberg & Burgstein mistakes Cartman for the "little boy" from the 1996 film Jerry Maguire. Jerry Maguire was a 1996 romantic comedy starring Tom Cruise.
• The optometrist continuously insults Eric Cartman calling him "piggy", in a possible reference to the character Piggy in the book Lord of the Flies.
• Mr. Garrison is teaching the students about the sitcom, Facts of Life. He makes a number of references to the series as listed below:
  • He states that Tootie left in the fourth season. Dorothy "Tootie" Ramsey was a character played by actress Kim Fields. In reality, she was on the series for all nine seasons appearing in a total of 200 episodes.
  • He states that Jo and Blair stayed on the show, and got married leaving Season 4 & 5 stagnant. Joanne "Jo" Polniaczek was played by actress Nancy McKeon who was also on the show for its entire run. Her character Jo does get married to Rick Bonner in the episode "Til Marriage do us Part". Blair Warner was played by Lisa Whelchel, her character never got married in the series.
• Cartman mockingly calls Stan Tom Brokaw. Tom Brokaw was the lead anchor on NBC Nightly News from 1982 to 2004.
• The song playing while Veronica is walking down the isle is of course the classic Bridal Chorus from the opera Lohengrin, composed by Richard Wagner around 1850.
• The painting of Jan van Eyck's The Arnolfini Marriage created in 1434 can be seen on Mr. Garrison's wall.
• The song sung by Veronica and subsequently backwards to defeat her is "The Morning After" by Maureen McGovern.

Goofs

• Red is seen twice in the cafeteria. Once sitting alone at a table, and again in the lunch line ahead of the boys.
• When the Succubus kills Kenny, he is shown being squished. Kenny is gone in the next scene, then reappears.
• At the end, Cartman brings in Kenny's severed frozen head to use his eyes as a transplant. Kenny was shown being crushed.
• At the end when Chef is singing, the camera keeps showing Stan and Kyle's faces and then their backs. On the front side, Stan is on the left but the back, Kyle is on the left and Stan is on the right.
• When Chef gets his job back at the cafeteria, as Stan and Kyle approach him, his apron has the word "Chef" in lowercase. When the boys are getting their food, his apron says "Chef" in uppercase instead.
• The younger selves of Chef's parents were seen several times in the episode, mostly around the wedding.

Kenny's Death

• Dies in an unknown manner while waiting for Chef at the bus stop, but miraculously revives at dawn.
• Smashed to death by the succubus. Cartman, whose eyes are bandaged due to a botched eye surgery, asks "What? What happened you guys? Is Kenny okay?" His corpse (presumably from his first death in the episode, since his body was totally pulverized in the second death) is later taken to Cartman's optometrist at the end of the episode, claiming that Kenny is an organ donor and wants to donate his eyes to Cartman.

Common

• The mention of Tom Brokaw by Cartman is replaced with "Mr. CNN" in the German dub, while it is removed in the Mandarin Chinese and Ukrainian dubs.

Hungarian

• The amount of $3.50 brought up throughout the episode is changed to $3.20. The quote "tree fiddy" is similarly replaced with "hámúsz", a portmanteau of három (three) and húsz (twenty).
• As Dr. Lout staples Cartman's glasses onto the latter's head, Cartman responds with "Bazzeg, te paraszt!" ("Fuck you, peasant!").

Italian

• Cartman's threat of "rip your god-damned nuts off with my bare hands!" is changed to "rip your balls without anesthesia".

Japanese

• The running gag of "tree fiddy" solely lies in the mispronunciation of "50", turning San-doru gojū (3ドル50) to San-doru goji.
• During the first two visits to the optometrist, Dr. Lout nicknames Cartman with the childlike honorific of -chan (小豚ちゃん, Ko buta-chan). At the final visit, Dr. Lout switches to -kun (小豚君, Ko buta-kun).

Mandarin Chinese

• The Loch Ness monster subplot is entirely replaced with the "Why did the chicken cross the road?" joke. The famous quote "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" by Neil Armstrong is also referenced in the episode.
