The Spirit of Christmas: Jesus vs. Frosty
Trivia
- Stan's parents, Randy and Sharon Marsh are first mentioned, but they are not introduced until "Volcano" and "An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig", respectively.
- Stan is the first character to speak in this short, making him the first character in the series to speak.
References to Popular Culture
- Frosty first appeared in the Rankin & Bass Christmas special Frosty the Snowman. The special was first broadcast on December 7, 1969 on CBS. The special has since become a staple holiday program through the years.
Kenny's and Eric's death
- Eric Cartman (who is called "Kenny") gets grabbed by one of Frosty's tentacles and is thrown at a distance. He gets slammed into the ground and quickly bleeds to death.
- Frosty, disguised as Santa, tosses the Kenny McCormick-lookalike on the ground. His head decapitates.
References in other episodes
- In "The Simpsons Already Did It", Tweek is scared of putting a carrot on a snowman, thinking it come to life. Stan asks him, "When did that ever happen besides that one time?", a drawback to this short. In the short, the Stan-lookalike was instead worried about the other boys putting a hat onto Frosty's head.

Trivia
- A little girl sitting on Santa's lap, looked a lot like Wendy Testaburger, though she is unnamed and her outfit is completely different from what it was in the show.
- When Santa Claus spins Jesus Christ around and throws him, Jesus lands next to a snowman wearing a hat. This is a reference to The Spirit of Christmas: Jesus vs. Frosty.
- The Fatality sound effect from the video game Mortal Kombat 3 can be heard before Jesus and Santa scream, starting the final battle.
- Jesus asks the boys to take him to the mall, but the place they actually go to is Main Street.
- While the short is close to the TV series, there were some differences to it:
- The font on the town's sign is in Stencil rather than the unique one resembling Playbill
- None of the mountains have snow on top.
- Kyle's voice is more high pitched.
- After Kenny's death, Kyle does not finish off with "You bastards!".
- This animated short was referenced in South Park: Phone Destroyer as one of the Battle Packs for Holiday 2019.
References to Popular Culture
- The introductory music is from "It Happened In Sun Valley", in the Twentieth Century-Fox Picture Sun Valley Serenade.
- Several music from Mortal Kombat 3 are heard: in the exchange of words between Santa and Jesus, the menu screen tune plays and during the fight, The Subway stage tune plays.
- "There can be only one" is a reference to the Highlander movies, in which every time an Immortal kills another, he adds the others powers to his own with the statement.
- The idea of a snowman coming to life was inspired by the Rankin & Bass cartoon Frosty the Snowman.
- The statue Kenny's head knocked over is one of Orgazmo, only here it is a mirror image. The Orgazmorator looks quite different here, too.
- Jesus executes a flawless Three Stooges eye gouge to Santa.
- The scene when the statue falls on the children is very much like the scene at the end of the Monty Python opening credits in which the foot squishes the chicken/man. They both have very similar squishing sounds as well.
- "Come on, lumberboy!" is a reference to the fact that Jesus followed stepfather Joseph into carpentry.
References in other episodes
- In "A Very Crappy Christmas", the boys create their own cut-out animation, which is clips used from "Jesus vs. Santa".
- It was referenced in "Red Sleigh Down", where in the middle of the episode the four boys say "Jesus!" and shake their heads side-to-side in exactly the same way that the Stan and Kyle-resembling boys did in the short film.
- In the 6 Days to Air: The Making of 'South Park' documentary, clips of this short were shown.
Kenny's death
- Kenny gets decapitated by Santa, and his head flies off and hits a statue, which then topples over and crushes some children. At the end of the film, a colony of rats eat Kenny's corpse.
