The National Guard is a real federal military force that is first featured in the Season One episode "Mecha-Streisand".
Background[]
In "Mecha-Streisand", Mayor McDaniels calls in the National Guard in an attempt to bring down Barbra Streisand, who has turned into Mecha Streisand and is destroying South Park. The National Guard fires several rockets, which takes no effect on the Mecha Streisand.
The National Guard also plays a large role in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, where they are seen at several points during the initiation and fighting moments for the war against Canada. Several characters from the show appear as members of the National Guard, such as Randy Marsh, Chef, and Stuart McCormick. A huge amount of the National Guard appears in the audience of a speech where they are told to fight and never give up, and even when Big Gay Al performs at the musical party before the National Guard is sent out onto the battlefield. After the war begins, a myriad of them are seen fighting Canada's army. They continue to do this until the movie reaches an end and the war is over.
In "The Red Badge of Gayness", after Eric Cartman (dressed as General Lee) leads a drunken crowd of South Park residents to follow in the Southern Confederacy's footsteps, the National Guard is activated to put a stop to their chaos. After a fight with the new Confederacy at Chattanooga, Stan Marsh and Kyle Broflovski inform the National Guard that the best course of action would be to rob the alcoholics of their supply of S'more Schnapps, which they do so. The group can be seen yet again when they surround the a tourist group at Fort Sumter, although they fall short in numbers when the entirety of the Confederacy shows up to intervene.
The National Guard makes a third appearance in the Season Seven episode "Grey Dawn", in which they can be seen cleaning up dead elderly people from the streets outside of Country Kitchen Buffet and taking the survivors away after the elderly were starved to death.
In the Season Eight episode "AWESOM-O", members of the National Guard are seen electrocuting A.W.E.S.O.M.-O 4000 and hauling him out of a building in Hollywood in order to take him to the United States government to be reprogrammed as a fighter-bot. There, a scientist assaults a National Guard member in order to save the "robot" from being reprogrammed, but gets shot by another member in response. They are also seen watching Cartman's embarrassing video tape.
The National Guard is shown in the background of several other episodes with military involved, such as "Quintuplets 2000", "Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow", and "Cartoon Wars Part I".
