Trivia

• At the Super Phun Thyme, there is a "special" for 2 kids for $12, although the normal admission price for a child is $6.
• The "I learned something today" part is parodying the same sentence Kyle or Stan would say at the end of the earlier episodes.
• When the criminal pulls a gun on Kenny, that is the closest Kenny got to dying throughout the entire twelfth season.
• Here's a list of arcade games in Super Phun Thyme: Smack Man, Farmer's Market, Space Brain Damage, Thirst for Blood, and Vomit Cop. There's also a Whack a Duck, a Blue Laser air hockey table, a Roller Phun roller rink, Laser Tagg, Bumper Carz, and Phun Bowling, not to mention a couple bucking machines: Space Pilot, a space ship, and Road W, a motorcycle.
  • The lead 6th grader and the dark-haired 6th grader can be seen playing some of the games.
• Kevin, Bradley, Francis, and Red, four students who did not appear at the beginning of the episode, are present during the final scene.

References to Popular Culture

• Most of the people in the Pioneer Village resemble characters from Little House on the Prairie.
• Various elements of the action film, Die Hard are referenced in the episode.
  • The criminals parody the gang of thieves from the film.
  • Franz bears a noticeable resemblance to Hans Gruber.
  • Franz interrogating the Pioneer Village employees to reveal the access code and then shooting them in the head references Hans killing Joe Takagi after he refused to give him the code to the Nakatomi Plaza vault.
• When Cartman and Butters ride the motorcycle, it parodies a scene from the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies, where Bond is driving a motorcycle with Wan Lin handcuffed.
• When Cartman and Butters got to Super Phun Thyme, a clear homage to Sigue Sigue Sputnik's "Love Missile F1-111" is played in reference to Ferris Bueller's Day Off. In fact, Cartman paraphrases Ferris's "you could miss it" philosophy.
• Though the Pioneer Village is a parody of living museums in general, it is specifically modeled after the Hiwan Homestead Museum in Evergreen, Colorado. Matt and Trey have also expressed frustration at actors in the Plimoth Plantation living history museum for never breaking character. It could also be inspired by Disney's theme parks where 'cast members' are told to never break character, even if they encounter a celebrity. Breaking this rule could result in them being fired.
• When the police arrive, behind them is a Pizza Nut restaurant, which is a parody of Pizza Hut.
• Real life fast food chain, Burger King is referenced in the episode as the place the bandits robbed before entering Pioneer Village.

Goofs

• When Butters is crying behind the mailbox with Cartman, his eyebrows disappear for several frames.
• Pioneer Paul came to Colorado in 1864 with his mother and father, which means he was a child. He welcomes the children to 1864 shortly after that so Pioneer Paul should have been a child at that point in time. This could, however, be meant as a joke.
• When looking for a partner, Cartman calls Clyde, Craig.
• Near the start of the episode, Pioneer Paul calls Smithy, Chad. Later on, Smithy's name is David Palmer, as noted on his file sheet.
• Before the pioneer village worker was shot, he said the code began with 52 but the code was actually 1864. However, this was corrected in the reruns.
• Stan says he came from Pagosa Springs, which was founded after 1864.
• When David Palmer is executed, the gunshot is silenced, even though there is not one on the gun.
• In Super Phun Thyme, the ticket prices incorrectly have 'Senor' instead of 'Senior'. In addition, both 'Adult:' and 'Children:' have a colon after them while 'Senor' doesn't.
• After the speaker announces that it is 5:00pm and the park is closed, Murderin' Murphy is shown cheering with his bald cap still on. Then, when the camera shows the employees from the back, his bald cap is now gone and he is shown to have black hair. When the camera shifts back to the front as they start to leave, he still has his cap on and then he removes it and drops it on the ground.
• At the general store, a cash register is seen on the counter. Even though it is supposed to be 1864, the first prototype register wasn't invented until 1879.
