Stanley Marsh, voiced by Trey Parker, is one of the four main characters of South Park

Overveiw

Stan is your average, happy go-lucky kid, which is just enough to make him the leader of our gang of four. Whether it’s something as noble as leading his friends on a mission to return a goat to Afghanistan, or as simple as breaking into a secret military base to recover his Okama Gamesphere, Stan almost always tries to do the right thing. Because that’s what Brian Boitano would do. He is somewhat more assertive than his friend Kyle. Stan is critical and preachy when it comes to Trends, but sometimes he can be sucked up into them, leaving Kyle to to be the one to pull him out of it. He is an animal lover, and Cartman usually gets on his case for it.

Family

StanWithoutHat

Stan without his hat

He is the son of Randy and Sharon Marsh, he has a sister, Shelley (who beats him up on a regular basis), and a gay dog named Sparky. He once owned a killer goldfish (from a parallel universe). His father is a geologist and a Nobel Prize winner.

Friends

Stans best friends are Kyle, Kenny and Eric. Once Kenny was killed off, he was replaced by Butters then Tweek, who was then replaced by Kenny once he came back again.. Stan use to have a girlfriend for the first seven seasons named Wendy Testaburger who has since broken up with him; he used to vomit everytime she tried to talk to him. She dumped him, tired of their relationship, and moved onto Token.

Kenny's Death

He and Kyle switched places on announcing Kenny's death by saying "Oh my God, they killed Kenny!" Usually followed by the other saying "You Bastards." This became less and less empathic over the years as Kenny continued to die.

Apperance

He wears a dark blue hat with red trim and pom-pom, a brown coat, blue pants, and red mittens. Like Kyle and Kenny, Stan rarely takes off his hat, but has been shown on those occasions when he removes it (the first being during the episode "How to Eat with Your Butt") to have shaggy black hair like his father. He also apparently has blue eyes, as noted by Kyle when Butters draws their cartoon forms in "A Very Crappy Christmas". A photorealistic version of Stan's appearance was produced as a police artist sketch for the episode Free Willzyx.

Athletics

Stan

Stan is quite athletically proficient, and is regularly the captain or star player of his school's sports teams. He was the quarterback of the school football team in "Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride" and the pitcher of the baseball team in "The Losing Edge". He was also number 4 on the South Park dogeball team that won the world championship.

Music

Although not as musically inclined as Kyle or Cartman, Stan did manage to write and perform a song about the importance of hybrid cars in "Smug Alert!". He can play the guitar rather well, though lyrics do not appear to be a strong point. (In a perhaps deliberate contrast, his "alter-ego" Trey Parker is the musical half of the South Park creator duo.) Like Kenny and Kyle, he plays the violin and also managed to write a song with Elton John entitled "Wake Up Wendy". Stan is also, according to the episode "You Got F'd in the A", a talented line dancer, instructed by his father.

Trivia

  • Voiced by Trey Parker and is considered Parker's representation in the South Park universe.
  • Has asthma
  • A fan of the Denver Broncos. This parallels Trey Parker, who also liked the Broncos as a child.
  • Doesn't have as much of an adversarial relationship with Cartman as Kyle and Kenny do. Many assume that Stan is one of the few people Cartman likes because they both are Catholic and middle-class. Cartman hates Kyle for being Jewish, and Kenny for being poor.
  • According to The South Park Scriptorium and the episode "My Future Self 'n Me", Stan's birthday is October 19 (the same as Trey Parker.)
  • Is the oldest of the four boys.
  • He is Kyle's best friend.
  • In the Japanese language dub of the show, he is voiced by Hiro Yuki.
