Trivia

• When all the men are shopping, the wives are in a semi-depressed mode. But for some reason, Liane Cartman, who is unmarried, is with them acting depressed. This is likely because of the fact that Cartman is shopping with them or that even the single men are shopping and acting gay, thus keeping her from getting male attention.
• This is the first time where Craig Tucker is shown without his hat.
• Big Gay Al does not appear in this episode although he is a prominent gay character.
• In the South Park Annual Metrosexual Pride Parade, Mr. Mackey dresses in the same outfit as Mr. Slave.
• Linda Stotch mentions her husband several times, although Stephen does not make an appearance in the episode.
• Despite being seen with Pip, Kevin, and Timmy in the hallway, Jimmy is not seen in the classroom with the other boys. The same also goes for Kevin, whose seat is replaced by Jason White.
• This is Jason's second appearance at South Park Elementary outside of his cameo in "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe" and the only episode in which he is seen in Mr. Garrison's classroom.
• Trey and Matt do not like this episode, thinking the Crab People's idea was really stupid and not liking how the third act went.

References to Popular Culture

• Cartman's metrosexual shirt has a picture of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe.
• The men chanting "Out of the malls and into the streets!" is a reference to Dog Day Afternoon.
• The Metrosexual Pride Parade is a reference to the annual Pride Parade.
• The line "We're here, we're not queer, but we're close. Get used to it." is a reference to the slogan "We're here. We're queer. Get used to it" created by activist group Queer Nation.
• While Gerald Broflovski and Sheila Broflovski watch HBC, the television shows listed in the program are real-life shows:

• After the crab people are defeated, the head of programming mentions the television show The Jeffersons.
• During the boys' trip to the South Park Mall, two of the stores they visit are Forever 16 and Marcy's, which are references to real-life mall stores Forever 21 and Macy's.
• The song that plays while the boys give Kyle a makeover is "All Things Just Keep Getting Better" by Wildlife with Simone Denny and is the opening theme song for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
• Chef says the latest expression used by black people that has not yet been co-opted by white people is "Flippity floppity floop". This references a 1957 Bugs Bunny cartoon ("Ali Baba Bunny"), where Bugs poses as a genie and casts a spell by doing a crazy dance as he chants a few words of gibberish, ending in "Flippity floppity floop."

Continuity

• This episode again demonstrates Kyle's inability to follow popular fads and trends. The first time this happens is in "Chinpokomon".
• This is now the third time that Cartman has suggested that he and the other boys kill Kyle. This was also done in "Toilet Paper" and "Grey Dawn".
• When Mr. Garrison and Mr. Slave come to Chef's house to ask him for advice, Chef says "Black people always used to say, 'I'm in the house' instead of 'I'm here.' But then white people all started to say 'in the house' so we switched it to 'in the hizzouse.' Hizzouse became hizzizzouse, and then white folk started saying that, and we had to change it to hizzie, then 'in the hizzle' which we had to change to 'hizzle fo shizzle,' and now, because white people say 'hizzle fo shizzle,' we have to say 'flippity floppity floop.'". The last phrase was earlier included in the episode "Osama bin Laden Has Farty Pants", where Bin Laden said the similar phrase "A flippity flappity floop! Jihad jihad!".
• This is the second time Eric Cartman claims to be LGBT because one of his relatives is LGBT. The first was in "Tom's Rhinoplasty".
• At the end of "Follow That Egg!", the metrosexual versions of several characters, including Randy Marsh, Stuart McCormick, and several other parents can be seen celebrating in the crowd.

Goofs

• When the men decide to unite when Sharon Marsh says "This is crazy!", Jimbo disappears when Randy replies.
• When the women are at the Marsh family's home discussing how much they enjoy their husbands' new metrosexual style, Sarah Valmer refers to her husband as "my Steven", even though his name is actually Ryan. Mr. Mackey and Mr. Slave also appear in the background despite being absent in the previous scene.
• When Craig and his gang pick on Kyle outside, the football he was holding disappeared.
• During the scene in the mall when the men are arguing with the women, Kyle's voice can be heard even though he was not present.
• At the metrosexual pride parade, multiple duplicates of kids and adults can be seen, including two versions of Heidi Turner, Millie Larsen, Louis Handler, Lizzy, a girl with flowers (that can be seen in several episodes), the boy with c cap, a lady with orange hair and red pants, and a lady with red hair and blue pants.
  • In the next shot, Millie can be seen on the opposite side of the street.
• During the pride parade, Jason can be seen with Craig, Butters, Tolkien, and Tweek in one of the floats that has a rainbow with the words "TOLERANCE" on top of it. However, he can later be seen amongst the crowd watching the parade a few seconds later.

Mandarin Chinese

• Instead of talking about the accident of spilling Coke on his pajamas, Stan, along with the other boys, discuss about the use of anti-aging and hair cream in Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Stan claims that the products can make him look like Taiwanese model Lin Chi-ling.
• The cast for Queer Eye for the Straight Guy parodies Taiwanese boy band 5566.
• All mentions of "metrosexual" when referring to people are translated as 優質台客 (Yōuzhì tái kè, lit. "High-end Tai Ke").
• The TV night schedule following Queer Eye for the Straight Guy are replaced with the program's sponsors. One of them is named 艾滋餅 (Ài zī bǐng), which is a parody of AIDS.
• Craig is addressed by Cartman as 挤吉 (Jǐ jí), and later by his father as 克拉嘰 (Kèlā jī). Neither are consistent with the dubbed name that was originally assigned since "Tweek vs. Craig" (小凡, Xiǎo fán).
• Some of the products mentioned throughout the episode are carried with brand names, both real and fictional. Real-life brands brought up in the dubbing include Prada.
• Chef's advice to Mr. Garrison is entirely replaced. Here, Chef explains that the metrosexual fad is "a matter of choice" on the individuals.
• George Bush is dubbed as Mr. Wang, an enterprise chairman.
• All references to the Latin fad are removed.

Spanish (Spain)

• At the Marsh residence, Randy offers Gerald mosto instead of shiraz, a non-alcoholic beverage made from grape juice.
• There are no mentions of The Jeffersons when the HBC head of programming is retelling the Crab People's past acts.

Ukrainian

• All slang terms explained by Chef are translated such that the words begin with Х: Хаті (khati), Хазу (Khazu), Халупу (Khalupu), Халупа малуха (Khalupa malukha), Хлюп хлеб-кльоп (Khlyup khleb-klop)
• After explaining the slang terms, Chef concludes with the phrase "It's all mathematics". Mr. Garrison then leaves without quoting the last slang term.
