Trivia[]

  • Kyle only has two lines in this episode, while Kenny has none.
  • Throughout the episode, Randy mentions "300" in one form or another, in reference to this being the 300th episode of South Park.
  • Cartman refers to himself as a conscientious objector, which typically applies to someone who refuses to bear arms or participate in military service on the grounds of sincere religious, moral, or ethical belief. Though in more recent times, it has applied to both healthcare providers and parents who are opposed to giving children vaccinations on the grounds of ethical, religious, or moral beliefs.[1]
  • Randy and Liane interact for the first time.
  • This is one of the few times where Liane is very stern with Cartman only this time, she even refuses to reward him like she normally does as he did not truly earn it.

References to Popular Culture[]

  • The main topic of the episode is in reference to the anti vaccine movement, in which people refuse to vaccinate their children, stating reasons such as violation of civil liberties (as many schools in the United States have made them mandatory with no exemptions for religious or philosophical reasons), concerns about the ingredients, or misguided fears that it may cause autism, all stemming from the fraudulent & redacted 1998 MRI study done by disgraced ex-doctor Andrew Wakefield, which started the entire movement.
  • The song that Randy sings on the float is "China" by Red Rockers.
  • Liane mentions buying Little Debbie Cream Pies for Cartman. Little Debbie is a real brand of cookie and cake based dessert snacks.
  • At the CDC Child Immunization Challenge round up, the announcer mentions that the event is sponsored by Chevy and Voices for Vaccinations. Both are real companies.
  • Although Chevy sponsors the CDC Child Immunization Challenge, the billboard advertising the '19 Silverado shows an image of a Dodge Ram pickup truck, which is a real truck.
  • Cartman's "Boo-Boo" present would have been a Hot Wheels racetrack set. Hot Wheels is a real toy company that makes die-cast toy cars and plastic race tracks for those cars.

Continuity[]

  • Randy and Towelie both mention Randy's business deal with China in "Band in China" as well as Randy's harassment of the homegrown weed farms that were seen in "Mexican Joker".
  • A similar topic about vaccines and their side effects was previously discussed in "Ass Burgers".
  • Throughout the episode, Cartman confuses being autistic with being artistic. A similar gag was previously used in "Ass Burgers" where Cartman confuses Asperger's with "Ass Burgers".
  • Cartman calling himself an Orthodox Jew is either a reference to "Mexican Joker" or "Jewpacabra".
  • This is the fifth time that Liane Cartman had a large episode presence. Her last was in "HUMANCENTiPAD".
  • Nathan's parents who appeared in "Handicar " can be seen at the end of the episode when Liane, Cartman's mother, appears to "save" him.
  • Liane's artistic skills were previously seen in "Tsst", where she demonstrates her skills in sumi-e or ink wash painting. Apparently, she just become "more artistic".
  • This is the second episode in which Cartman is seen completely naked. The first time this occurred was in “Good Times With Weapons”.
  • Cartman acts like a pig and is later called "Eric 'The South Park Piggy' Cartman" at the CDC Child Immunization Challenge round up. He had been previously referred to as "Piggy" by Doctor Lout in "The Succubus", Scott Tenorman in "Scott Tenorman Must Die" and Liane Cartman in "Roger Ebert Should Lay off the Fatty Foods".
  • During the CDC Child Immunization Challenge, Tweek is seen in the audience wearing his Outlaw Outfit from the mobile game South Park: Phone Destroyer.

Goofs[]

  • In this episode, Cartman is depicted as being afraid of needles and desperately attempts to avoid an injection from a doctor. Yet he was previously able to give himself an injection without any fear or hesitation in "Tonsil Trouble", "The Snuke", and "World War Zimmerman".
  • Big Mesquite Murph is seen knocked down without transition after Liane shields her son from being vaccinated by a doctor.
  • Just like in "Skank Hunt", while sitting at the assembly Richard Adler reverts to the younger appearance he had in the flashback in "Mysterion Rises" with different hair and a darker vest.
