Announcement
The possibility of South Park continuing beyond the fifteenth season was first mentioned in a March 2011 interview by The Hollywood Reporter with Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In the interview, they said that they were contracted through 2013, at that point. The renewal was not officially announced, so some called the statement into question as a possible error. This statement was called into further question after "You're Getting Old" aired in June 2011, with many believing the end of the series was near. A few days later, Trey and Matt appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and voiced their love for the show and plans to continue.
In late July 2011, the statement resurfaced in an interview with Anne Garefino, an executive producer on South Park and The Book of Mormon. Finally on July 27, 2011, it was formally announced by South Park Studios that the series was renewed for at least two additional seasons, through 2013, as Parker, Stone and Garefino had previously stated. On November 16, 2011, it was announced that South Park had been renewed through 2016.
