• Kenny appears to be unhooded in the locker room scene but is hooded again throughout the episode. He can also be heard saying 'Yeah' whilst Butters is giving out a speech.
• Much of this episode was inspired by the fact that the NFL has changed its kickoff rules over the past two years to try and reduce injury.
• In the episode, Randy Marsh's uniform is different to the one seen in the preview.
• The upcoming 2012 United States presidential election is briefly referenced by Randy.
• Butters seems to be going into puberty as he has experienced nocturnal emissions and erections.
• This is the first episode to air in the month of September since the episode "Cow Days" in 1998.
• The football stadium is named "Invesco Field at Mile High", referencing the former name of the Sports Authority Field at Mile High stadium and most likely that some call it by its old name.

• The Jim Rome CBS Sports Network was featured using news beats throughout the episode.
  • Jim Rome is seen to be repeating the phrase, 'check that...' a lot. This is something he is known to say when being sarcastic and to fill up airtime.
• Referenced in the episode is Cee Lo Green, an American rapper/singer who was ridiculed for singing the John Lennon song "Imagine" badly on News Years Eve 2012.
• There are several sports celebrities that can be seen in the Butters' Creamy Goo commercial. These include Lance Armstrong, Tom Brady, Blaine Gabbert and Jim Rome
• The episode references controversies over concussions in football, a growing issue that has led to thousands of footballers filing lawsuits against the NFL.

Continuity

• In the commercial for Butters' Creamy Goo, Butters Stotch pops out through a hole saying "Like me!" in a manner similar to how he said "That's me!" in "Butters' Very Own Episode".
• Butters seems to have forgotten what erections are, however he explained them earlier to Jimmy Valmer in the Season Nine episode "Erection Day".
• Butters' tap shoes can be seen in his closet when he shows Cartman his collection of "goo". They can be seen on the top shelf, in a box that says "Tap Shoes". This is a reference to the episode "You Got F'd in the A".
• Butters' Professor Chaos helmet and necklace are in his closet when he shows Cartman his "goo".
• Stan's comment at the end of the episode, about his father always exaggerating any illness he gets, is a reference to his hypochondria. Randy exaggerates his alcoholism in "Bloody Mary", going so far as to put himself in a wheelchair.
• Nichole's parents from "Cartman Finds Love" are seen at the PTA meeting with all the other parents.

Goofs

• When Butters shows Cartman his "goo", his Professor Chaos helmet can be seen. The red dot in the center is seen on the back of the helmet, however it normally appears on Butters' forehead whenever he wears it.
• When Stan offers Randy a bottle of Butters' "goo", he had nothing in his hands in the last segment. In the next, he has a little bottle.
• When the boys are watching the football game, Butters disappears for one scene, then reappears when he speaks.
