"Raining Blood" is a 1986 song by American metal band Slayer heard in the Season Nine episode, "Die Hippie, Die".

Background[]

Hippies from all over country take over South Park for the Hippie Jam Fest 2005 festival. Eric Cartman is given permission by Mayor McDaniels to use the Hippie Digger in an effort to break up the massive concert and save the town.

When he reached the stage, Cartman plays Slayer's "Raining Blood" on the PA system, because "hippies hate metal". This plan works, causing the crowd to disperse quickly from the aggressive music.

Lyrics[]

Trapped in purgatory
A lifeless object, alive
Awaiting reprisal
Death will be their acquittance
The sky is turning red
Return to power draws near
Fall into me, the sky's crimson tears
Abolish the rules made of stone

Pierced from below, souls of my treacherous past
Betrayed by many
Now ornaments dripping above
Awaiting the hour of reprisal
Your time slips away

Raining blood
From a lacerated sky
Bleeding its horror
Creating my structure
Now I shall reign in blood

Trivia[]

  • Slayer guitarist Kerry King found the episode humorous and expressed his interest in the show, mentioning it in an interview, saying "It was good to see the song being put to good use. If we can horrify some hippies, we've done our job."[1]
