Trivia[]
- This is the last South Park episode where the boys are in 3rd grade.
- This is also the last episode to feature the 1997 Comedy Central logo and the Bubbles variant that ran from January 1999 to late 2000 at the end, which had started with the premiere episode, "Cartman Gets an Anal Probe".
- The bottle that Satan and Saddam Hussein are drinking from reads "Gustav's Scotch since 1901".
- Heidi Turner is called "Marcie" by her parents in this episode. Incidentally, her father dies in this episode as well.
- In this episode, Francis' voice sounds remarkably like Butters'.
- Despite most of the boys's classmates appearing, Wendy and Pip are not seen in this episode.
- The title of this episode answers the question of the previous episode's title.
- Oddly, the theme song does not play in this episode instead, a recap of the previous episode is shown.
- This episode reveals that the only people who go to Heaven are Mormons. Any non-Mormon characters will end up in Hell after they die.
- Kenny McCormick and Saddam Hussein are the only exceptions to this rule. Kenny is allowed to enter Heaven twice, in South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and later "Best Friends Forever" while Saddam went to Heaven in this episode.
- This episode marks the first instance that Timmy stands on his feet, albeit for a few seconds.
References to Popular Culture[]
- During the "previously on South Park" recap at the beginning of the episode, a reference is made to the Happy Days episode where Fonzie jumped the shark. Unlike the real Happy Days episode, Fonzie is brutally killed by the Shark.
- The repeated line throughout this episode, "Yeah, well, where was I going to go? Detroit?" was from the film Kentucky Fried Movie.
- The organist for the children's church is Schroeder from the Peanuts comics.
- God claims he is a Buddhist.
- The way Cartman acts in his church is very similar to how infamous televangelist Peter Popoff acts, as seen on his nationally aired infomercials.
- The planned church building was to be built with crystal walls. This could be a reference to the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. The walls and ceiling of the Crystal Cathedral consist entirely of large panels of glass.
Continuity[]
- When Cartman says "the tooth fairy thing didn't work", it is a reference to "The Tooth Fairy Tats 2000".
- Cartman also says "the boy band thing didn't last", a reference to the episode, "Something You Can Do with Your Finger".
- Despite Cartman saying the band didn't last, it was actually him that decided to quit, as he did not want to become too popular.
- 'El Presidentes' aides from "Rainforest Shmainforest" appear in Hell.
- Lambtron (on the couch next to Miss Prissypants), Pengin and several other "Chinpokomon" are seen laying about Cartman's living room during the adults ploy to lure him away from his ministry.
- Terrance & Phillip toys from "Cow Days" are also seen in the living room.
- Also a blue Megaman doll from "Damien" appears in there.
- A plushie of Sexual Harassment Panda is laying on the living room floor.
- The Antonio Banderas Blowup Doll from "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery" appears in the hotel room of Satan and Saddam Hussein.
Goofs[]
- During the shot showing the crowd outside the church, many characters, including Craig, Tolkien, Kevin, and Brimmy are duplicated.
- When Cartman, Stan and Kyle are asked to go to Cartman's house, it is daytime. After they make it to the house and Liane goes into the kitchen to speak to Sister Anne, Randy, Sharon, Gerald, and Sheila, it appears to be nighttime out the window.
- During the final fight between Chris and Saddam, Chris pulls Saddam's left leg off. However, when Satan arrives to break up the fight, Saddam's right leg is severed instead, with Saddam and Chris pulling either end of it. In the next shot when the two face Satan, Saddam is again seen without his left leg. However, in the following shots of both of them, the top of both Saddam's legs are visible. When his full body is seen later on, his left leg is shown to be severed at the knee, while earlier on Chris had pulled the entire leg off.
Kenny's Death[]
- Kenny technically 'died' the previous episode, after being struck down by a bus on its way to Mexico. As a result, he is already considered dead when this episode begins, although in truth, he is actually still alive in Mexico. However, Kenny's death is re-shown in the episode recap.
