Trivia

  • This is the first time Shelly Marsh appears frightened in the show.
  • Craig's last name is revealed to be Tucker.
  • Craig frequently complains in this episode about the boys getting into unnecessary predicaments, which does happen on many occasions. This is a reference to almost every South Park episode.
  • Craig is ten years old, according to the amount of candles on his birthday cake.
  • When Craig finally decides that he's gonna ditch the boys, they appear to be seen walking on top of the Nazca Lines. Specifically, they are walking on top of the hummingbird.
  • This was the final episode to be rated TV-14 by the Federal Communications Commission. The rest of the episodes are given a TV-MA classification.

References to Popular Culture

  • Craig refers to the Peruvian jungle as "The Land of the Giant's lost world", referring to Land of the Giants, Land of the Lost, and The Lost World.
  • The music played under Craig's narration towards the end is a pan-flute cover of Gary Numan's "Cars", the one heard at the beginning is "Three Blind Mice".
  • Randy's subplot in this episode is a spoof of the 2008 movie, Cloverfield.
  • Randy Marsh often turns the camera on him in this episode and in "Pandemic" and says "I am so startled." This is a reference to one of the final scenes in The Blair Witch Project
  • The scene where Randy uses a night vision feature on his camera to see in the dark in the storage room is a reference to the movie REC.
  • In the the news report from New York City there are quite a few parody billboards and signs:
    • D-Mobile - A parody of T-Mobile.
    • Spritz - A parody of Sprint.
    • Cucci - A parody of Gucci.
    • I ♥ New York and I ♥ New York Theater (with a parody of the Statue of Liberty)
    • A large Cats display.
    • One large ketchup bottle, and a couple of single beer bottle signs.
  • The scene where the townspeople take shelter in the grocery store is a reference to the film The Mist, which is itself based on a Stephen King book of the same title.

Goofs

  • When the Marsh family is watching the news, Shelly has her pajamas on. When they leave the house, she has her coat on. When they're in the streets, she has her pajamas on again.
  • When the boys reach the homeland security agents, Craig is shown in front of the boys. However, in the next shot, he's behind them.
  • When the Marsh family is in the street, Randy gets a shot of a tank firing on a guinea pig, but when the next shot is seen, the tank has disappeared.
  • Stephen Stotch is again referred to as Chris in this episode.
