Trivia[]
- This is the first regular episode since Christmas Snow, and the first South Park media to not have any relevance to the COVID-19 pandemic at all in general since Christmas Snow (though the pajama laws could be interpreted as an allegory for the mask mandates during said pandemic).
- Karen is seen at South Park Elementary for the first time.
- Herbert Garrison is in a new relationship since "D-Yikes!".
- Neither Stan or Kyle have large speaking roles in this episode; Stan has three lines, while Kyle has two. Kenny does not speak at all.
- This is the second time PC Principal is shown lifting weights at his office, the first time being in "Put It Down".
- The ideas that are suggested by the fourth-grade male students on what to do to save Pajama Day reference other episodes:
- Butters suggests shooting up the school, referencing the school shootings that occurred in both "Dead Kids" and "The Problem with a Poo".
- Craig plans to burn down the cafeteria, referencing "The List" and "Gluten Free Ebola" where there were attempts to burn down the school. This is also the fifth time an arson attack on the school is planned.
- Jimmy suggests smearing shit on the windows, referencing "My Future Self n' Me".
- Mr. Mackey's tone sounds noticeably lower in this episode, implying Trey Parker may have had some difficulty voicing him.
- However in "Back To The Cold War", Mr. Mackey's voice is back to normal.
- This is the first episode since the Season One episode "Cartman's Mom is a Dirty S***" to have first aired in February.
- The Pajama Day song is a real song: "Pajama Time!" by the Laurie Berkner Band.
- This is the first episode to feature the MTV Entertainment Studios logo. However, the HBO Max version strangely does not show it at the beginning.
- The song played during the third and final news report is titled "Lederhosn Lust".
- On the map behind the counter at Jimbo's Guns, there is a text in green that writes "We don't take kindly to all you minorities law" and an arrow pointing to Louisiana (or maybe Arkansas). This is a reference to the quote "we don't take kindly to your types around here" which was a running gag in "Sexual Harassment Panda".
- On the other side of the "We don't take kindly to all you minorities law" text on the map, there is an arrow pointing to Florida and "Stand Your Ground Law" written next to it. The law was previously mentioned by Jimbo in "World War Zimmerman".
- Several states have X's on them, apparently marking states that have restrictive gun laws (New York, North Carolina, Georgia, Minnesota, Pennsylvania).
- Some cameras used by the photographers while taking pictures of the students in pajamas carry the brands "Nicken" and "Manon", parodying Nikon and Canon respectively.
- At Gerald's law firm, the sign reads, "Broflovski & Stern, Attorneys at Law", which would mean he has a new business partner. His office was previously named Broflovski and Jackson.
References to Popular Culture[]
- Mr. Garrison discussing his love triangle in front of the students and asking them for help may be a commentary on how many teachers are letting their personal lives bleed into their work, including forcing students to adopt their personal beliefs.
- Matt Damon is referenced in a series of jokes throughout the episode, particularly for an advertisement that he has appeared for Crypto.com on Youtube titled "Fortune Favours the Brave"[1].
- Matt Damon also appears in Team America: World Police, a film which Trey Parker and Matt Stone made in 2004.
- The laws that are in place for Pajama Day are compared to being in N*** Germany, with some residents and the news reporter speaking in German and even wearing an SS uniform. The German phrases are generally meaningless:
- The reporters asks nehmen Sie meinen Schlaufenzug? (will you take my loop pull?) and wer sehen wer die Witzer (who sees who the joker).
- The man being arrested says Gehe ich ins Gefängnis? Bringst du mich der Führer? (Am I going to jail? Are you bringing me to the Führer?).
- The reporter wears an SS uniform, but with a sun cross on the hat, and a skull and crossbones instead of a proper Death's Head. He is also seen holding a Luger P08 Pistol as it was commonly used by N*** Officers during WW2.
- The pajama laws are an allegory for the mask mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Butters' suggestion to shoot up the school may be a reference to the death threats that have been leveled at school administrators in the United States.
- Mr. Garrison briefly sings "Good Morning" from Singin’ in the Rain.
- When the kids are celebrating Pajama Day at the end of the episode, Kenny is wearing a Scooby-Doo pajama onesie.
- It was shown that his Scooby-Doo pajamas were censored to a darker brown dog onesie as an official iPhone Sticker. The censored version was later made as a figure for Super Impulse's 3.75" South Park collection[2].
- The school's Pajama Day is compared to the Met Gala, an event that often has attendees wearing rather elaborate outfits.
Continuity[]
NOTE: Continuity has moved to the episode page and is now an admin-only task. Please do not list continuity here.
Goofs[]
- When Cartman dreams about Pajama Day, Clyde Donovan is present and in his pajama despite being in the class with the privileges revoked.
- This may be explained as Cartman failed to remember this in his dream.
- Esther, Allie Nelson, Heather Williams, Millie Larsen, and Tweek Tweak are shown at Cartman's basement, despite none of them being a part of the class PC Principal put the Pajama Day ban on.
- This is later proven as Allie later appears with pajamas before it is declared Opposite Day.
- As Stephen Stotch was driving through the Main Street, Bank of South Park was seen, however the sign saying "BANK" was missing.
- Mike (an employee from South Park Realtors) is seen dancing with the other staff during the musical number, only to enter the office later saying he was late due to a flat tire.
- At the end of "Pajama Time!", a man is seen playing an acrostic guitar without matching the rhythm of the song.
- Cartman flips a page of a book in the wrong way while he bonds the boys and girls for a plan.
- A boy on the right corner of the hallway has his bushy eyebrows missing until PC Principal announces that it is Opposite Day.
- While PC Principal speaks to Wendy in his office, Wendy does not turn to him when he walks to the window.
