Trivia

  • In the commentary of the episode, Matt Stone states that he hates Stevie Nicks, hence comparing her to a goat.
  • General Plymkin, from "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" makes an appearance here as the commander of the American Forces in Afghanistan.
  • The episode's first title was “Osama bin Laden Has a Really Really Small Penis,” a statement which is addressed during the Bugs Bunny-like chase scene where it takes 12 magnifying glasses to make it visible.
  • 4th Wall Break: While debating on whether to rescue The Boys, one of The Afghan Boys say that rescuing Americans makes no sense. One of the others says "We're speaking English right now! Does that make sense?"
  • It is written on the envelope that the street number of Stan's house is 2001 Bonanza Street, with a zip code of  CO 80439.

References to Popular Culture

  • This is the second episode to briefly feature Towelie.
  • The song performed by Fleetwood Mac and the goat at the end of the episode is a parody of the 1981 Stevie Nicks song "Edge of Seventeen."
  • Cartman parodies the Bugs Bunny cartoons with signs depicting two pictures which, when saying the two words together, forms a humorous word or phrase describing the antagonist. In the episode, Bin Laden takes the place of Elmer Fudd. Cartman's signs describe Bin Laden as "screwball," "shithead," "jackass," "cocksucker," and "Barbra Streisand." The first one of these is the only one of true Looney Tunes vintage, the rest come from his string of curses at the end of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
  • The scenes with Cartman and Osama also spoof various other Warner Bros. and Disney cartoons during World War II, wherein the characters interact with animated versions of Nazis as to mock them. Osama's last line, "Terrorists is the CRAZIEST peoplez", references a Warner Bros. short called "Russian Rhapsody" where Hitler says, "Nazis is the CRAZIEST peoplez"
  • Cartman calls the Afghanis Jawas, a reference to the Star Wars series.
  • Osama says "Derka Derka", "Jihad" and "Mulla Mulla" like the Arabs in Team America: World Police, which was also made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
  • The ending scene in which Stan kneels down and erects the small American flag may be an homage to George W. Bush's campaign commercials preceding the 2000 elections.

Goofs

  • At the start of the episode, the four boys are seen wearing gas masks with only one breathing tube. Later, when they are checked before boarding the school bus, their gas masks are seen with two breathing tubes.
  • When Stan is leaving the room after showing his parents his package, part of his head remains on-screen while his parents react to the package.
  • After Sharon sees the hostage video with Stan in it, Randy just appears in the kitchen door, rather than walking in.
  • When the boys are held captive by Osama, they are ordered from left to right on chairs Kenny, Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and the goat. However, later in the recording being watched from Stan's House, they are ordered Cartman, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and the goat.
  • When this episode got premiered, Stan's shirt is blue, and Kyle and Cartman are closer to him. But in the reruns Stan's shirt is white, and Kyle and Cartman are a little far away from him. [1]
  • Technically, al-Qaeda was destroyed, not the Taliban.
  • Christine Perfect appears with Fleetwood Mac, however Perfect has not been a member of Fleetwood Mac since 1998.
  • In the scene where both the South Park boys, the goat, and the Afghani boys leave the cave, the Afghani boy with the green hat does not come out with them. Seconds later, after the smoke clears, the green-hatted Afghani boy appears.
  • When the Afghani boys receive their dollars in the mail, the goat infront of the building that was blown up disappears.
  • When the kids and goat are tied up, a rope is seen to be wrapped around the goats leg, but disappears.
  • The boom stick is given to Osama as a microphone, it explodes before the wick burns completely down.

Kenny’s Death

  • Killed in an explosion along with his Afghan counterpart. Stan's and Kyle's Afghan counterparts say “Ya Allah! Koshtaen Kayvano! Tol dayoos!”, which translates to “Oh God, they killed Kayvan! You bastards!” in Dari Persian. Kenny is also seen talking with Kyle, Stan, and the Afghanies in the background, although his alter ego is not.
