*There are several Stephen King works alluded to in this episode. The farmer with the New England accent persuading Stephen Stotch not to bury "Butters" in the Indian burial ground is an allusion to Pet Semetary. Linda throwing herself into "her son's" grave is reminiscent of a scene in the book version of Salem's Lot. Additionally, a poster for I.T. (a parody of Steven Spielberg's E.T.) appears in the background of Heidi's basement.

Trivia

  • Butters' female name, "Marjorine", is a take on "margarine", a substitute for butter.
  • Boy with Blue Cap makes a reappearance with the boys.
  • Pip Pirrup is seen in the classroom, but not seen with the boys.
  • The side story with Stephen Stotch burying Butters' dead body in an Indian burial ground in order to resurrect him parodies the novel Pet Sematary.
  • In the opening of the mission briefing scene, the music is reminiscent of the evacuation scene music from the film Independence Day.
  • Clyde can put on a good English accent, as demonstrated when he defended Cartman. His voice also changed to a much less nasal and slightly less deep voice.
  • The scene when Butters is knocking on his parent's door after he gets the device is an allusion to the short story called The Monkey's Paw.
  • The scene at the slumber party where the girls do "light as a feather, stiff as a board" is a direct reference to the 1996 horror film The Craft and the 1987 horror film The Gate, it has since become a common slumber party game.
  • Bradley Biggle's voice was deeper than usual; When the boys were talking about the dangers of the 'Future Telling Device', when he spoke, something somewhat similar to Craig's voice came out.
  • The Stotches' basement has changed completely since "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers". They might have cleared it out to make space for Butters' chains, as they were worried he was a "demon spawn".
  • In Heidi's basement, there is a chart labeled "Lola's Growth Chart". That could mean she has a sister with that name, or that already-known Lola has been using Heidi's basement for some reason.
  • In Heidi's basement near the stairway, there is a poster featuring "Twerpz" dolls, a spoof of the Bratz dolls.
  • Kevin mentioned that their plan to dress Butters up as a girl is similar to the plot of "Juwanna Mann", a 2002 film about a man who impersonates a female to play women's basketball.
  • Bebe mentions that "Marjorine" is flat-chested. Based on that, most of the other girls must have started "developing" since "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society".
  • The scene in which the boys got caught by Heidi's father is reminiscent of the scene in the episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die", in which Jimbo, Ned, and others were caught watching Mrs. Tenorman taking her clothes off.
  • Butters' epitaph reads "JESUS SAID 'COME UNTO ME ALL YE WHO LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST' MATT 11:28." This is the King James version of Matthew 11:28.[1]
