Trivia[]

  • Butters' female name, "Marjorine", is a take on "margarine", a substitute for butter.
  • Brimmy and the boy with red shirt and blue pants appear with the boys' extended group at different parts of the episode.
  • Pip Pirrip is seen in the classroom, but not seen with the boys. Similarly, Annie Knitts is also seen in class, but not at Heidi's slumber party.
  • Clyde can put on a good English accent, as demonstrated when he defended Cartman. His voice also changed to a much less nasal and slightly less deep voice.
  • Bradley Biggle's voice was deeper than usual; when the boys were talking about the dangers of the 'Future Telling Device', when he spoke, a voice similar to Craig's came out.
  • The Stotches' basement has changed completely since "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers". They might have cleared it out to make space for Butters' chains, as they were worried he was a "demon spawn".
  • The scene in which the boys got caught by Heidi's father is reminiscent of the scene in the episode "Scott Tenorman Must Die", in which Jimbo, Ned, and others were caught watching Mrs. Tenorman taking her clothes off.
  • This is the first time where Heidi is shown in Mrs. Garrison's class.
  • Heidi's name is finalized this episode. Prior, she was called "Marcy" in "Probably".
  • Esther's name is revealed on Cartman's analysis board. Millie Larsen's name is spelled on the board as "Milly".
  • Matt and Trey claim they find this episode hard to watch because there are too many ideas packed into it and it comes across as unorganized and a friendly reminder to keep future episodes simpler.
  • Kenny has no lines in this episode. Also, upon blowing up the paper fortune teller, he surprisingly survives the massive explosion that was so powerful it could be seen from space.
  • In the background of the basement of Heidi's house, there is a growth chart for "Lola". However, the character for Lola has a different house, Heidi doesn't have siblings, and her pet has a different name.

References to Popular Culture[]

  • There are several Stephen King works alluded to in this episode. The farmer with the New England accent persuading Stephen Stotch not to bury "Butters" in the Indian burial ground is an allusion to Pet Sematary. Linda throwing herself into "her son's" grave is reminiscent of a scene in the book version of Salem's Lot. Additionally, a poster for I.T. (a parody of Steven Spielberg's E.T.) appears in the background of Heidi's basement.
  • In Heidi's basement near the stairway, there is a poster featuring "Twerpz" dolls, a spoof of the Bratz dolls.
  • Kevin mentioned that their plan to dress Butters up as a girl is similar to the plot of Juwanna Mann, a 2002 film about a man who impersonates a female to play women's basketball.
  • Butters' epitaph reads "JESUS SAID 'COME UNTO ME ALL YE WHO LABOR AND ARE HEAVY LADEN AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST' MATT 11:28." This is the King James version of Matthew 11:28.[1]
  • The side story with Stephen Stotch burying Butters' dead body in an Indian burial ground in order to resurrect him parodies the novel Pet Sematary.
  • The scene when Butters is knocking on his parent's door after he gets the device is an allusion to the short story called The Monkey's Paw.
  • The scene at the slumber party where the girls do "light as a feather, stiff as a board" is a direct reference to the 1996 horror film The Craft and the 1987 horror film The Gate. It has since become a common slumber party game.
  • The girls are shown dancing to "Rock Your Body" by Justin Timberlake.
  • In the opening of the mission briefing scene, the music is reminiscent of the evacuation scene music from the film Independence Day.
  • A box for the board game Twister can be seen on the floor in Heidi's basement.

Goofs[]

  • Throughout this episode when Craig talks, Kyle's voice comes out instead.

  • In class, Pip's hands are gone until the final scene.
  • Throughout Heidi's slumber party, Wendy is sometimes shown wearing shoes.
  • During the scene where the boys are inside the lab with the fortune teller, Bradley Biggle is seen in a shot with his gloves off, then appears in another shot with his gloves on, and then appears in another shot with his gloves off again.
