Trivia

The scene that was cut in the actual episode

• The scene used for the promotional image for this episode where Cartman is talking to the kneeling Goo Man in the school cafeteria next to the boys, was cut in the actual episode.
• In actuality, tricking Cartman into eating a plant-based meat substitute would have opened up South Park Elementary to a lawsuit, as it is illegal for a business or public facility to lie about the content of any consumable they serve, as it could lead to some people suffering from allergic reactions.
• Cartman's line at the end of the episode about how the Incredible Meat is highly processed, full of salt, preservatives and made in factories just like the meat they were getting before is meant to highlight that many people who campaign for the environment generally only go for what looks like a more environmentally friendly alternative on the surface. In reality, this is just as bad, if not worse.
  • While the episode didn't touch on it, getting off meat in favor of plant based diets would be economically and environmentally devastating, as only 10% of farmable land is suitable for growing crops, and over farming them can lead to the land been infertile for generations, which is a problem that the Mexican avocado Industry is suffering from, as well as farms in various European countries. Another side effect is that the people living in third-world countries would starve even more, as there's no way they could afford a vegetarian diet.
  • That's not even taking into consideration the fact that research has shown that for humans to be at their healthiest, they need to eat a bit of meat.

• It is unknown how the students in South Park Elementary weren't embarrassed and shocked by Cartman who was partially exposed in public, wearing nothing but a hospital gown throughout the episode after his first "heart attack". Same goes for when Cartman is talking to the Goo Man with Butters at Burger King.
  • However, the previous episode, "Shots!!!", did show Eric naked a number of times as he was piggishly trying to avoid getting hog-tied and vaccinated, so perhaps this isn't so strange.
  • In fact, the residents of South Park have been seeing Cartman naked since his first indecent exposure "sneaking" across the auction stage in "Good Times with Weapons", which may have been televised, so in fact it would not be surprising if most of South Park already knew what Eric looked like naked.

• At the end of the episode "Season Finale", this episode was called "Tegridy Burger" instead of the actual title.

References to Popular Culture

• Most of the episode centers around the supposed right to free speech, how no one side seems to really stand to gain without making another suffer, or at some unfortunate cost--though in the ironic case of Cartman, he suffers because he's obstinate and would suffer less if he did change--and that no compromise ever seems to make it right by either side, it just kinda screws everybody.
• Towelie refers to the waste parts of marijuana as "schwag", a slang term for the worst kind of marijuana.[1]
• The title of the episode is a reference to the phrase "Let Them Eat Cake", which is typically interpreted to mean that the rich or aristocrats has little or no comprehension about the plight of the poor, as it is often falsely attributed to Queen Marie Antoinette.
• There are various references to the 2007 film, There Will Be Blood:
  • The Goo Man's physical appearance and his speaking mannerism is based on Daniel Plainview.
  • The Burger King employee, Rick, being called "H. W." and designated as a regional manager is in reference to H. W. Plainview, Daniel's adopted deaf son who is designated as his business partner in order to appear as "a family man" to his audience.
  • The Goo Man referring to himself as "a family man" and his passionate speech about being "a goo man" are based on Plainview's speech to an audience about him being "an oil man", as seen here.
• "I Wanna Get High" by Cypress Hill is heard when Randy and Towelie drive into town.
• "Smokin Cheeba Cheeba" by Harlem Underground Band is heard at the grand opening of Tegridy Burger.
• "Pass The Dutchie" by Musical Youth is heard during the cow scene.
• Real life fast food chain, Burger King and its Impossible Whopper is shown and becomes the inspiration for Randy to make a weed-based burger called "Tegridy Burger"
• Cartman mentions the 2019 film Joker.
• Cartman's line, "Yes, we do have freedom of speech, but at times there are ramifications for the negative that can happen when you are not thinking about others and only thinking about yourself!" is taken from a comment made by NBA player, LeBron James during a press conference on October 15, 2019.
  • The comment was made in reference to Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey, who, on October 4 2019, tweeted about his support for Hong Kong during the 2019 Hong Kong protests on Twitter. This led to China severing ties with the Houston Rockets and NBA officials and players profusely apologizing to China. James claimed that Morey was "misinformed" and later went on Twitter to add context to his comments, which led to James being heavily criticized for siding with and profiting from China. This has also led to some Hong Kong residents protesting the NBA player by burning his jerseys and destroying pictures of him.
• Cartman sings "It's Taco Tuesday" after his second trip to the hospital, in reference to Taco Tuesday, a custom in many U.S. cities where restaurants offer tacos at a discounted price. It may also be another subtle reference to NBA player LeBron James, as he is known to sing and dance with his family about Taco Tuesdays on his Instagram. He had attempted to put a trademark on the term "Taco Tuesday" in September 2019, but was turned down by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Continuity

• Randy mentions that he stopped selling weed to China, referencing the promise he made to Towelie in "Shots".
• Sharon suggests that Randy stop making commercials and not do another parade, in reference to "Shots".
• In the Annual Tegridy Growth chart, the line graph for "Weed" rises to $300,000, referencing the amount which Tegridy Farms earned in "Shots".
• Wendy Testaburger and Nichole Daniels bring up the topic of climate change and how the younger generation is affected by it. The topic was previously discussed by Cartman in "Mexican Joker".
• The Bijou Cinema Ticket Operator returns, now working at Burger King, and reveals his name to be Rick.
• The film, There Will Be Blood, was previously referenced in "Breast Cancer Show Ever". The scene where Wendy Testaburger gets up and declares "I'm finished!" after beating up Cartman parodies the final scene of the film.

Goofs

• The scale of the Annual Tegridy Growth chart has "$300,000" marked at the 5th horizontal gridline, while "$150,000" is marked at the 3rd gridline. This means that the bottom of the chart would work out to be "$-75,000", which is not possible given that both Profit and Expenses start from the bottom.
• When Cartman enters the cafeteria to confront the girls they in animated conversation but no sound is heard from them.
• When Wendy gives her speech at the cafeteria during barbecue rib day, the entrance doors to the cafeteria are not seen behind her, but after the first shot of Cartman shaking, the doors are suddenly there.
• Esther is seen twice in the assembly, next to Louis and a few rows down in front of Lola.
