• This is the first Christmas themed episode since Season Eight's "Woodland Critter Christmas".
• The police making racist jokes and bullying minorities references the Ferguson, Missouri case where a black man named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a police officer. The police also tell each other to choke and shoot the black men also referring to the shooting of Michael Brown and the choking death of Eric Garner.
• The hologram of Kurt Cobain loads a shotgun and briefly holds it up to his mouth, which refers to how the real Kurt Cobain committed suicide.
• Kenny does not appear in this episode. Thus making this another season where he doesn't die.
• Bill Cosby trying to molest Taylor Swift during the Holiday Special refers to the sexual assault allegations on Cosby, which occurred during the time around the making of this episode.
• This episode represents holography in a way that is physically wrong and misleading. The most direct proof being Michael Jackson's hologram killing the Record Producer.
