Trivia[]

This is the first episode in which Cartman suggests to kill Butters, the second being "Good Times with Weapons".
Vaginitis is a real illness, although unrelated to the one portrayed in this episode.
- The illness portrayed is based on Pellagra, which is caused by a deficiency of niacin. It is most common in people who do not eat red meat.
A picture of Stan and his dog Sparky is seen in his bedroom.
Bill Denkins was referred to as Farmer Bob Denkins in this episode.
Butters is seen playing adeptly with a G36 Rifle.
Cartman has already known that Mr. Denkins kills trespassers on sight (in "Scott Tenorman Must Die"), which will put the group at fatal risk, but he still joins them.
Cartman states that Stan and Kyle called him names three times in the last 3.2 seconds, which is incorrect because the approximate time is 7 seconds.
The baby bulls and baby cows have udders.
When the boys suggest keeping the calves at Butters' house he says "No no no no no." This audio was later recycled in South Park: The Stick of Truth, where it is sometimes said by his character Paladin Butters when he is attacked.
One airing exists where when Cartman says “Me me me me!”, Cartman’s voice is unedited and sounds like Trey Parker.

References to Popular Culture[]

Randy Marsh compares the boys to "little John Walkers". This is meant as a reference to John Walker Lindh, an American who fought for the Taliban.^[1]
Michael Dorn is famous for playing Worf on Star Trek: The Next Generation. He is portrayed in this episode wearing a sweatshirt which bears the logo of Pasadena City College, his real-life alma mater. After this episode aired, Dorn revealed that he is a fan of South Park, and would have provided his voice for the episode had he been asked.^[2]
Cartman's "Mission Impossible Breaking and Entering Playset" is a parody of the Mission Impossible Series. Its theme song can be heard playing in the background when the boys are entering Jenkins' Ranch at midnight to save the calves.
The negotiations over the phone, the cattle truck, and most of this episode (such as the part when Cartman was standing outside the front door ordering that the men step back) was a parody of the cult classic 1975 film Dog Day Afternoon.
The negotiator tells Cartman that he is "just a guy from Lakewood trying to make ends meet." Lakewood is a middle-class city near Denver.
Cartman has a nightmare about Uncle Jesse from the TV show Full House trying to molest him.

Continuity[]

After telling Cartman several times not to (i.e. "Death", "Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo", South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut), Kyle himself calls his own mother a b****.
This is the second time Cartman makes someone or something a cannibal, feeding a baby cow beef jerky. The first time was when he tricked an unknowing Scott Tenorman into eating his own parents, whom Cartman had made into chili, in "Scott Tenorman Must Die".
Cartman's catchphrase of "You're breaking my balls" returns.

Goofs[]

When Stan unlocks the chain for one baby cow and moves on to another, the chain is back.
- When the boys are talking at the entrance of the building, both of the chains unlocked by Stan are locked again.
After Stan complains about Butters having his arm around him, his shirt changes in the next shot.

Hidden Visitor(s)[]

There is a visitor on Butters' left side while Cartman is negotiating with Glen, the negotiator. This is the only child visitor ever seen.

Several of the calves' names assigned by Butters are changed, such as zuckerschnecke (lit. "Sugar snail", a variant of German pastry), David, Indiana, Pauline, and blümchen ("flower").
During the parents' interview, Randy claims that the boys had turned into "little Osama bin Ladens."

Mandarin Chinese[]

The calves are established to be six days old.
The Susanne Sommers' Calf Exerciser is replaced with traditional Chinese medicine for impotence. Butters claims that it was what his mother had always been buying for his father.
According to Rancher Bob, the calves are valued at $200,000 each.
Sheila claims that she can get the boys out of Stan's room in 15 minutes instead of 15 seconds in the original version.
As Butters attempts to curse his father, his voice becomes inaudible.
While Butters' is saying goodnight to the calves, he uses names that references several celebrities, namely: Andy Lau, Daniel Wu, Elva Hsiao, Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai, Jacky Wu, Kang Kang, and Hisashi Iwano.
Michael Dorn is renamed to B. A. Baracus, a character from The A-Team played by Mr. T.
