Trivia

• "Mantequilla", Butters' Mexican name, is Spanish for butter.
• This episode did not air in Latin America, but it was dubbed into Spanish.
• The overweight Border Patrol agent is reminiscent of Joe Arpaio, an Arizona sheriff vehemently against illegal immigration.
• When Cartman is having a nightmare at the sleepover, various items scattered around the room include:
  • A Guitar Hero controller and an Xbox 360
  • Game cases for Guitar Hero and Vomit Cop 7
  • Board games Monopoly, Living (a parody of Life) and Farmer's Market
  • An Imperial Walker from the Star Wars franchise
  • Potato chips and soda cans
  • A box labeled "Mommy's Toys"
  • An Antonio Banderas Blowup Doll from "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery" another reference to Liane Cartman being a sexaholic.
  • A small figurine of Shadow Hachi, Stan's ninja alter-ego from the episode "Good Times with Weapons".
    • There are also two figurine sets consisting of Craig's alter-ego, Ginza, fighting Clyde's alter ego from the same episode (One near the Guitar Hero controller and the other near a basketball).

• Timmy Burch sleeps in his wheelchair at the party.
• After the game in the beginning, when the boys are eating pizza, Jimmy is drinking water in a cup instead of soda from a can. This is probably for fitness reasons as he is shown to be very conscious of fitness in " Up the Down Steroid".
• When the boys leave Cartman's house to look for Butters, all of Cartman's team are dressed for playing the game, while only Tolkien is dressed for The Mexican Team.
• This is the fourth time the country of Mexico was shown, the first time was in "Probably" and the last was "Free Willzyx".
• Craig explains that "Butters is one of those people who you can never remember if he was there or not". This can also be regarded as a reference to the Season Five finale "Butters' Very Own Episode" where Stan questions "Butters was missing?".

References to Popular Culture

• The title of this episode is a reference to the novel and movie The Last of the Mohicans.
• In the scene where Butters wakes up from his bed naked and opens the windows, only to see a crowd of cheering people, it is referencing The Life of Brian in which the same situation happens. Trey Parker and Matt Stone are known to be big Monty Python fans.
• The song "Work Mexican Work" is a parody of Harry Belafonte's Calypso hits "Jump In The Line" (1961) and "The Banana Boat Song" (1956).
• Randy Marsh's scream of "NO!" when he sees the leaves outside the house is originally from Darth Vader at the end of the third Star Wars film and a reference to the Blu-ray enhancements to the sixth film to include the line. This is the second time Randy's voice has been dubbed for a "No!" line, the first being in "Something You Can Do with Your Finger" - on that occasion the sound was taken from Star Trek: First Contact.
• The Mexican workers leaving the US for Mexico and other parts of Latin America is a reference to the 2004 movie A Day Without A Mexican, a satirical comedy directed by Sergio Arau.
• When Butters wakes up in Mexico, a picture of famous controversial artist Frida Kahlo can be seen on the wall behind him.
• This episode satirizes the topic of illegal immigration, involving Mexicans trying to get over the United States Border. However, the main plot involves Mexicans trying to get back into Mexico because life will be better there, references to the then-current economic recession in the United States.
• This episode introduces a new spoof of a real-life restaurant, El Pollo Loco, which is Spanish for "Crazy Chicken". The name "El Pollo Loco" was used in "W.T.F." as Kenny's wrestling name.
• When Butters crosses the border and shouts "base!", the Mexican announcer yells "BASE-OOOOOOO!" in a parody of Andrés Cantor, famous to American audiences for shouting "¡GOOOOOOOOOOL!" during his narration of soccer matches. "Base-o" is not actual Spanish, however.

Continuity

• This is the first time DogPoo Petuski appears as a member of the boys' extended gang. He was one of the candidates for the new fourth friend in "Professor Chaos", but was ultimately passed over in favor of Tweek Tweak.
• Cartman says "Respect my authoritah" in Spanish, which marks the first time the phrase has been used since "Marjorine". This also marks the third time this season Cartman has re-used one of his old catchphrases which have been absent for several seasons.
• A toy truck can be seen behind Craig when Cartman wakes up the others. The truck is The Tonko Radio - Controlled Play Bulldozer Cartman received for saving South Park from The Hippies in "Die Hippie, Die".
• Cartman is shown to use a gun for the first time that actually works. Other times he has used guns he either lost control or the gun jammed, such as in "Wing", where he lost control of an automatic gun and "Cartoon Wars Part II", where his handgun jammed. He also has a gun in "Two Days Before the Day After Tomorrow", but he never fires it.
• Stan Marsh seems to be fully back to normal. He is cured of his cynicism but is also not shown drinking.
• When some of the Mexicans are crossing the border, a teenage girl can be seen that resembles the pregnant teenager in the episode "Eek, A Penis!".

Goofs

Two Cartmans.

• After Cartman yells at Craig at the beginning, two Cartman models can be seen in the scene.
  • This was corrected by the time the episode was available on iTunes.
• At the hospital, despite the nurse only calling two names, four Mexicans run out to join her.
• The Butters piñata riding the donkey blinks right before Cartman tackles it.
• When Butters stands on the table, it's clear. Then, the camera briefly switches to the Mexican President giving his speech and when it returns to Butters, the table is covered with food.
• In the scene where Cartman chases Butters at the Mexican-US border, the border patrol opens a gate in the fence, yet it is not seen or used later.
