Trivia

• This is the final episode in which Isaac Hayes recorded new dialogue for Chef. Ironically, Chef's last line was "I'm alive."
• Cartman still expresses his strong hatred for hippies. His first mention of hating them was in "Weight Gain 4000".
• A statue in the old lady's garden at the beginning of the episode looks similar to the statue in the Garden of Betrayal.

References to Popular Culture

• Cartman regards Slayer as a death metal band, Slayer actually is a thrash metal band and belongs to the so-called "Big Four of Thrash Metal" along with Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax.
• Metallica and Motörhead are also parodied and referenced in this episode on the computer screen where Cartman uploads "Raining Blood".
  • Metallica is called "Muhhrratalicaz" and the song, "Ride the Lightning" from the album of the same name is parodied as "Ride The Thunder".
  • Motorhead is referenced as "Motorface" and the song "Death or Glory" from the album, Bastards is also parodied, but it is called "Death from Behind".
• This episode is a parody of the disaster movies Armageddon and The Core.
• The hippie jam festival may be satire of the famed Woodstock Music Festival in 1969, where an estimated 500,000 people attended a music concert that lasted approximately four days.
• Cartman's Hippie exterminator outfit is similar to a Ghostbuster outfit from the film Ghostbusters.
• The drum man statue in the hippie jam festival is a reference to the Burning Man of the Burning Man Festival.
• This episode parodies common plots of horror movies where the protagonist tries to defend their town against some evil such as aliens, zombies or some other type of monster.
• The hippies constantly refer to corporations and Cartman as "little Eichmanns". This is a reference to Adolf Eichmann, a Nazi lieutenant colonel who was one of the major organizers of the Holocaust. The usage of the phrase is a reference to Ward Churchill's controversial essay On the Justice of Roosting Chickens, where he used the phrase to refer to the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
• One of the keyboards on the hippy music stage says Gorg on the side. This is a parody on the musical instrument manufacturer Korg.
• Kyle can be seen wearing a shirt with Che Guevara, an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, on it.
• A blonde female hippie can be seen wearing a shirt that says "Fish" in the shape of a fish, a reference to the American jam band Phish.

Goofs

• When the college know-it-all-hippies arrive, their car drives past two houses, both numbered 1002 (Broflovski's number).
• Near the end of the episode when the hippies are leaving South Park, Chef is shown with five fingers but he usually has four in previous episodes.
• After the hippie festival kicks off, Randy and Sharon are seen in their kitchen discussing their son's new lifestyle, reminiscing about the late '60s when they were hippies. However, unless this is an intentional joke - as noted in Randy's article - they have got to be at least in their late fifties at the time the story is progressing in.
