"Britney's New Look" is the second episode of the twelfth season of South Park. This episode originally aired on March 19, 2008. In Canada, this episode originally aired on April 04, 2008.

Synopsis

Stan and Kyle try to help Britney Spears to get to the North Pole but make a shocking discovery...

Plot

At Stan's house, Randy is forcing Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Butters to watch a political broadcast involving Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Suddenly, there is a newsflash, and Britney Watch comes on. It shows Britney has been caught camping near South Park and urinating on a ladybug. It goes on to say the man who took these photographs has received $100,000.

Deciding to get their own picture, Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Butters (who is dressed as a squirrel so Britney will defecate on him) go to her hideout, only to find out that there is a whole crowd of people there. Trying to get past the security guard, they lie they are Britney's children and are allowed through to Britney who believes her children have arrived. Upset and tired of her life, she shoots herself.(with the a apperance of a shotgun leaving a huge hole in her head)

Arriving at hospital, the doctors manage to save Britney (though she is now headless). The boys feel bad and promise to make it up to Britney.

After having new music recorded and then giving a poor performance at the MTV music awards she is bothered even more by the press. Stan and Kyle then try to get her away from all the bother, and try to take a train to the North Pole which leads to Kyle faking as Britney to distract the press. Upon revealing his true identity, Kyle questions why Britney must be bothered so much, to which they reply she must be killed. Satanic singing ensues, to the horror of Kyle.

The train engineer informs others that he has sighted Britney on the train, and not long after the train stops in a small village. The paparazzi advance, but the crowd contains Randy, Sharon, Sheila, Gerald, Grampa Marsh, Jimbo and Officer Barbrady amongst others. Kyle is also in the crowd but runs to Stan and Britney. The two are informed that this is human sacrifice, and is required for a good harvest. Soon, everyone begins to take photos to the horror of Stan and Kyle who watch as Britney dies on the floor.

In the supermarket, Sheila notes what a good corn harvest they have had. On the television, the news anchor mentions the up and coming talent that is Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus. Soon, everyone in the supermarket begins to sing Satanically once more, this time including Stan and Kyle.

Trivia

• The constant saying of sentences such as "leave Britney alone" are a reference to internet celebrity Chris Crocker'sYouTube video Leave Britney Alone which rose him to fame in 2007. Similar versions of the sentence would be used in Canada on Strike.
• The plot elements of this episode are took from the short story The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson.
• Britney Spears previously appeared in "Christian Rock Hard" as one of the musical artists on strike due to the illegal download of their music. She's also referred to in 'Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset'; in the titles of Season Seven; as one of Shelley's favorite artists; in an alternate scene for 'Cherokee Hair Tampons' where Cartman notes that he will make her his love slave, paying her ten million dollars (with the money he would receive had Kyle paid him for his kidney); and in 'Awesome-o' when Cartman dresses as her.
• The crowd which advance in Britney in the episode's climax contain several one-off characters amongst well known ones. Amongst the one-off characters are one of the members of the Super Adventure Club from "The Return of Chef", the woman working at the city dump in "Casa Bonita", real-life actor Gene Hackman who appeared in "Krazy Kripples", Alison from D-Yikes! and George W. Bush, the Griefer from "Make Love, Not Warcraft" and both whale attendents from "Free Willzyx" despite the fact that one of them was shot dead.
• Halfway through the episode, there is a news clip stating that animal control has captured "giant squirrel" who thinks it is human (Butters, still in his costume). This is the third time Butters has been mistaken for an animal, the first two being in "Good Time With Weapons" and "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset".
• There is reference to the movie "The Lottery" where the last half of the show replicates the climax of the movie.
• The scene where the paparazzi screams and points at Stan, Kyle, Britney, and her manager as they flee the hospital is taken from Invasion of the Body Snatchers
• Though Kenny does not appear in this episode, his parents appear briefly near the end taking photographs of Britney with everyone else.
• The same chanting of the townspeople can be heard in the episode "Damien", whenever there is a close up of Damien, Satan's son.
• The chanting of "rectus dominus" is used as a translation into Latin of the term "ass master", a common insult used in earlier episodes of the show.
• In the scene where Britney's manager and the boys secretly get into the manager's car, his car is an animated copy of a 2008 Mercedes E-class.
