Randy hires his family to work on Halloween night, but due to no customers showing up, he quickly becomes insane, seeing "ghosts" and mimicking the character Jack Torrance from the Stephen King novel and movie The Shining.
Shelly Marsh sets the store on fire and the family collects an insurance claim with seemingly no questions asked.
