Bears are wild animals that first appear in the Season One episode "Volcano", but go on to make a prominent role as one of the main antagonists of the Season Three episode "Jewbilee". They are also mentioned several times throughout the series and have appeared in South Park: The Stick of Truth.

The first appearance of the bears is in the Season One episode "Volcano", where a Rocky Mountain black bear is seen while Jimbo, Ned, and the boys go hunting. Jimbo notices the bear and decides to shoot it, after exclaiming that it was coming right for him.
In "Jewbilee", the bears are first seen as the Broflovski's (with the addition of Kenny) are driving to the Jewbilee Camp. After getting to the camp, Gerald tells the counselor about it, although the counselor is not worried, and states that they saw the bear a few days ago and there is nothing to be concerned about. At the Squirts camp, following Ike Broflovski making a picture of the last supper, bears are heard rummaging through the trash outside. The Squirts leader says that they are going to hunt the bear, claiming he will earn his chutzpah badge if they do. After the Squirts find the bear, the leader tells Matthew to use a net on the bear, but he ends up being kidnapped by the bears, much to everyone's dismay. After two more failed attempt at capturing the bears that led to more Squirts being taken, the Squirts leader and the kids find what seems to be one of the stolen children. After they go up to it, a net traps all of the Squirts, which allows the bear to carry all of them away, angering the Squirts leader greatly. Eventually after Kenny is kidnapped, it is revealed that the mother bear was just kidnapping the kids so they could attend its baby's birthday party. After a bit of lingering in the cave, the group collectively decides to leave in order to help the other people.
