  • The opening narration was supplied by Caitlin Gallogly. She is most notable as a cast member of the comedy series The Reel Housewives of Theatre West.
  • A special version of the opening sequence is shown in which the boys (excluding Kyle) are wearing their South Park: The Stick of Truth attire and do not sing.
    • This is the first time that some variation of the South Park theme song is not played during the intro. Instead, a parody of the Game of Thrones theme is heard.
  • The store Lady McCormick walks into at the beginning of the episode is EV Games, a reference to EB Games.
  • The PS4 games inside EV games include Legacy: Fourth Son, Grand Tour, Vomit Cops, Motoracer, Aquarium Simulator, Bird Patrol, Catnap and Home Front.
  • The memorial wall for the fallen mall security reads: "BLACK FRIDAY WALL OF HONOR est. 1974 A TRIBUTE TO THE GUARDS THAT HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES IN THE LINE OF DUTY".
  • The Japanese lettering that appears during the "Princess Kenny" sequence, プリンセス ♥ ケニー, translates to "Purinsesu ♥ kenī" ("Princess ♥ Kenny").
  • At the time that this episode was released, the price of the Xbox One after the 96% discount would be $20. The price of the PS4 after the discount would be $16.
  • This episode reveals that Scott Malkinson has to eat every two hours or he will pass out.
  • When Cartman is walking Butters through The Betrayal Garden, it is implied that he hasn't watched Game of Thrones himself despite previously berating Butters for it.
  • Despite Stan's claim, Kenny does not actually say 'ball-licking lesbian.' He actually calls Cartman a 'cock-sucking faggot.' This can be heard if listened to carefully.

References to Popular Culture[]

  • The episode title is a pun on George R. R. Martin's novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. This series of books is the basis for the cable TV show Game of Thrones.
  • George R.R. Martin delaying the date of Black Friday to December 6 is a reference to the repeated delay of Martin's most recent series installment, The Winds of Winter. At the time this episode aired (2013), the book had been delayed for nearly two years. The book still has not been released as of 2024, although Martin continues to claim it is coming any day now.
    • The revelation that Martin has not actually ordered any pizza after promising Butters and Scott that "it's on its way" and "I've actually ordered FIVE pizzas" are further allusions to Martin's frequent lies about his writing progress and the number of sequels he has planned.
  • There are many references to common occurrences in Game of Thrones.
    • Discussions of betrayal in opulent gardens
    • Gratuitous sex scenes
    • Incest (between the news anchors)
    • The constant promise that dragons are coming
    • The man screeching and holding up a "96% Off!" flyer is a reference to the leader of the White Walker horde in the final episode of season 2.
    • While talking to Butters and Scott, Martin mentions Joffrey Baratheon, Samwell Tarly, Stannis Baratheon, Jon Snow and Jaime Lannister.
  • Kenny has a third generation My Little Pony by his throne.
  • Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO, and his predecessor Bill Gates appear.
  • The way Princess Kenny is dressed resembles Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda series.
  • Various pieces of art related to penises are seen in George R. R. Martin's office, among them a miniature model of Michelangelo's David and the sculpture from A Clockwork Orange.
  • Princess Kenny's locket is based on Sailor Moon's Cosmic Heart Compact.
  • The music that plays during the "Princess Kenny" sequence is based on the music used in the opening of the Japanese visual novel Princess Lover.

Goofs[]

  • When Cliff Barackman is seen walking with his back to the camera in the ending, he is seen without his cap. However, when he turns back to the camera upon hearing that Black Friday was delayed by a week. he's seen wearing his cap.
  • Ms. Stevenson from "Miss Teacher Bangs a Boy" appears among the crowd approaching the mall, although she died after jumping off of a building.

Deleted Scenes[]

  • The PlayStation 4 Army play the demo of PlayStation 4 at a store, with Kyle being the first to play the console while Stan guides him. While playing, Kyle notices the new features on the controller, such as vibration and a speaker. He is impressed with how this console changed.
  • The PlayStation 4 Army arrive at the Underpants Gnome Kingdom to convince the Underpants Gnomes to join their side on Black Friday, by giving them underpants. They all agree and cheer.
