Trivia[]

This is the second episode that was not aired nor dubbed in Japan. The first was "Chinpokomon".
- This resulted in the dub not establishing why Cartman gets briefly possessed by Kenny in subsequent episodes until "The Biggest Douche in the Universe".
Although Kyle is said to be a diabetic in "Cherokee Hair Tampons", he still buys a lot of candy.
- It may have been sugar-free candy.
Even though Cartman, Kyle, and Stan do not physically make it to Heaven, they would not have found Kenny anyway since he was a Christian, and not a Mormon. This concept is explained in "Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?".
The McCormicks have a robot guard even though they are poor. It could have been bought with Kenny's life insurance premium, the half-million they got from Cartman as compensation for Kenny dying (in "Cartmanland") or for just something that happened to be there for some reason.
In Cartman/Kenny's flashbacks, everyone speaks the echoes.
The flashback at the beginning of the episode about who had the ticket marks Kenny's first appearance since "Kenny Dies" and one of the two episodes in Season Six to feature Kenny with the other being "Red Sleigh Down" where he returns permanently.
Starting with this episode, Tweek Tweak stops being a member of the boys. He would be seen with the boys again briefly in "The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers" and "The Death Camp of Tolerance" but on neither occasion was he the fourth member.
List of flags seen in front of the UN building: Suriname, Ireland, South Korea, Cameroon, Egypt, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Jamaica, Belgium, UK, France, Turkey, USA. They also include a rainbow flag, a pirate flag and a Rastafari flag.
- The flags of Brazil, Suriname, Ireland, Egypt, India and the Rastafari flag were repeated.
- All flags were correctly drawn except for South Korea where it is missing trigrams on the hoist side.
A still from this episode was featured on the cover of an issue of Reason magazine.
The name of this episode is a possible reference to the Led Zeppelin song "Stairway to Heaven".
The candy store is called Lolly's Candy Factory. The term 'lolly' can be short for 'lollipop', and it is also the singular of 'lollies', the Australian word for candy.
The song Alan Jackson sings about the boys building the ladder is a parody of his song “Where Were You (when the world stopped turning)” about 9/11.

Continuity[]

This is Saddam Hussein's first appearance in 2 seasons.
Stuart McCormick and the field reporter mention that "Kenny died last December". This is referencing his death in "Kenny Dies" where he died of terminal disease. The episode itself aired in December.
When Stan, Kyle, and Cartman are building the ladder to Heaven, Randy thinks they are building a clubhouse.
A poster for Terrance and Phillip: Asses of Fire can be seen in Kenny's house in Cartman's first Kenny flashback. Asses of Fire is central to the plot of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
When President Bush is talking about Saddam Hussein's plan, he outlines the side plot of "Do the Handicapped Go to Hell?" and "Probably".
The Russell Crowe Editor from "The New Terrance and Phillip Movie Trailer" appears after the boys return from their candy shopping spree. This character is based on an editor that used to work at South Park Studios.
This is the second time Cartman has been involved in an incident of cannibalism; the first time was in Season 5's "Scott Tenorman Must Die".

Goofs[]

In the opening shot of Lolly's Candy Factory, the sign outside says 'Close'. When the view zooms in on the boys, it says 'Closed'.
When Alan Jackson puts down his guitar after singing "A Ladder to Heaven", it disappears.
Kyle's last name is misspelled in this episode.
In "Clubhouses", Stan builds a treehouse on his house's backyard. This treehouse is seen again in "Spookyfish". But, this episode shows Stan's backyard empty. The same error was made in "Quintuplets 2000", but they may have just taken the treehouse down after "Spookyfish".
When the news reporter first shows up, Kyle can be seen jumping on the ground and looking at Cartman. In the next frame, he is several inches from where he was before.

In the German, Latin Spanish, Mandarin Chinese and Ukrainian dubs, there are no mentions of The Jerry Springer Show when Cartman claims that "poor people don't have anything better to do than piss other people off".
While at the top of "heaven", Cartman uses other entities over "pixie faeries" in comparing with Heaven:

The crowd's chant near the ladder during sunset is replaced with the intelligible phrase in the following dubs:

When seeing Kenny's urn for the first time, Cartman identifies the urn as a vacuum flask.
The robot guard stationed in Kenny's house adopts a lower tone than Cartman when he is checking for guards.
The scream from the female Japanese "angel" who fell in the studio is replaced with a male voice, continuing even after the "angel" had landed on the ground.

German[]

In President Bush's address to the United Nations, the story portion of "Saddam being sent to heaven to live with Mormons as a punishment" is changed to being "sent to heaven to live with Mother Teresa as a punishment".
The Japanese news correspondent is named "Kamushi Kasaki".

Mandarin Chinese[]

"In the Ghetto", the song which Cartman sings during one of his flashbacks, is replaced with a simple taunt towards Kenny, that going to the latter's house to play would get the boys mosquito bites and have them contract dengue fever.
Although Saddam Hussein appears in the dubbing, his name is not mentioned throughout the episode. The enemy party is instead referred to as an unnamed terrorist organization.
The Japanese news correspondent is dubbed as "三本五十元" (Pinyin: Sān běn wǔshí yuán), parodying Japanese World War II military general Isoroku Yamamoto.
In the first news report on the Japanese ladder, the reporter mentions that the ladder had caused thousands of workplace deaths.
List of changes to the President's brief in the Oval Office:
- The military general explains that the hindrance to the ladder operation is that the construction would encroach Mecca, Saudi Arabia, triggering retaliation from the terrorist organization.
- The general is concerned that the terrorist organization might use planes to destroy heaven as a result of the encroachment, referencing the September 11 attacks. This would lead to the President's decision to bomb heaven themselves, claiming it would be a "counter-terrorist" move.
- The intelligence agent responsible for the surveillance photos is named "007", referencing James Bond.
- Dick Cheney points out that dengue fever could be eradicated through bombing heaven.
The President's address to the United Nations is replaced with an actual call for support to bomb heaven, making references to the 2002 Bali bombings as well. In addition, President Bush threatens to destroy any country that stands against this resolution.
The price for Cartman's abortion is quoted at $300,000.
