Trivia

• This is the first holiday episode since the Season Eleven episode, "Fantastic Easter Special".
  • This is the first Thanksgiving-themed episode since Season Four's "Helen Keller! The Musical".
• The turkey hand is a common way for children to draw a turkey for Thanksgiving.
• The planets seen on the star map are Earth, Plymouth, Indi, Colthenheim and Green Lantern World, the latter of which apparently no one really cares about. This is likely a reference to the panned Green Lantern movie. Apparently, these planets align with the Turkey Hand.
• The song Butters was listening to also appeared in "The Ring".

References to Popular Culture

• This episode's plot is a satire of the paranormal show Ancient Aliens, shown on The History Channel.
• The majority of this episode's plot is a parody of the 2011 Marvel Comics' film Thor, featuring Natalie Portman in the same role as this episode, alluding to her perceived irrelevance to the overall story.
• "He who controls the stuffing, controls the universe" is a reference to the line, "he who controls the spice controls the universe" from the book and film Dune.
• The star map is a reference to the different families' planets in the Dune saga.
• The DeVry Institute is a for-profit technical college with campuses around the United States.

• The 'hand collection' of planets are:
  • Earth - A planet where the alien Pilgrims and the Indians settled many years ago.
  • Plymouth - Home to the Pilgrims, who control the stuffing mines. In real life, the pilgrims were an English separatist religious movement from Plymouth. "Plymouth" is also the name of Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts, traditionally identified as the place where the pilgrims landed in 1620 in order to establish a new colony.
  • Indi - Home of the Indian People, who are trying to take the stuffing mines from the Pilgrims. The natives of the Americas are named Indians from the error that Christopher Columbus believed he was close to the East Indies and China. The Caribbean island chain is called the West Indies for the same reason. "Indus" is the name of a real-life constellation, the genitive form of the word "Indi" is used in individual star designations.
  • Colthenheim - A name made to sound like Jotunheim, one of the Nine Worlds of Asgard from Marvel's Thor universe.
  • Green Lantern World - Green Lantern (2011) was a movie that had some similarities with Thor in that they both involved extraterrestrials and comic book superheroes. Released in the same year, Thor was popular amongst audience members and well-received, while Green Lantern was not.

Continuity

• Cartman compares Kyle's cynical attitude toward menopause. This joke continues a gag from the previous episode "It Hits the Fan".
• The History Channel was used as a study aid in "I'm a Little Bit Country" for an assignment on the founding of the United States of America.
• This episode has Indians and Pilgrims from different worlds. This was previously mentioned in "Cancelled", in which the aliens revealed that Earth's population is in fact comprised of many different species taken from different planets.
• The restaurant that Kyle and Natalie eat at has a similar background and waiter as the Italian restaurant Buca De Faggoncini that was featured in the episode "Erection Day".
• Butters is seen watching one of the Jonas Brothers' music videos. The music video originally appeared in the episode "The Ring".
• The pilgrims apparently have the capability to break through the force field around Earth that was put there in "Pinewood Derby".
• There is a picture of Kyle and his elephant in his room.

Goofs

• Miles Standish says Kyle is 9 years old. However, in "Crack Baby Athletic Association", an episode that came earlier this season, Stan says Kyle is 10.
• All the boys are upstairs in Kyle's room, but when they go downstairs to watch TV, they're at Cartman's house.
• Throughout the episode, Miles' cape appears and disappears periodically.
• When Miles puts down the map he had shown Kyle, it disappears.
• For a few seconds during the episode, when Miles is being thrown from the Indian planet, he is drawn with gloves on.
