Hey everyone. So this is a post I was thinking about making for quite a while now, but for some reason I never got around on making it. But eh, I was bored so I thought why not make it now. So as you guys can tell from the title, I will be giving my thoughts on the South Park fanbase, and why it is one of the most toxic fanbases I've ever encountered.
First, I'll go to say on the record that I am not talking about any of you, and of course not every South Park fan out there is toxic, but a vast number of keyboard warriors I've seen on the internet happen to be South Park fans, and I just wanted to contribute my views on them. Okay first with the positive, with the fans that I am fine with. Now I've met a good number of genuinely nice fans, on Youtube and this wiki. They are respectful and open-minded about others' opinions, and some fanfictions and headcanons are nice.
Now, I will go into my problems with the fanbase, strong opinions can be seen by some, be warned.
Okay, one problem I have with the fanbase is that a lot of them feel the need to share the show's opinions and political views. For example, Matt and Trey have demonstrated a significant amount of respect for The Simpsons, but they hate Family Guy. I've seen a LOT of South Park fans who bash on Family Guy simply because South Park did it, and they also praise The Simpsons. I believe its perfectly fine for people to have their own opinions on something, but at least have it be your own thoughts, don't just blindlessly bash or praise something just because your favorite show expressed their views on it, that's the way I see it.
I think I find myself equally annoyed by both boomer and zoomer audiences. I've noticed that the older audiences are fairly fragmented. I've seen some who reminiscent about the classic South Park episodes and hate anything after season three, and I've seen others who hate the classic episodes and embrace the modern ones, simply because there is more adult focus. Not too many people like Tegridy Farms (myself included), but the people who do like it, are mostly older audiences. While I do believe people are entitled to their own opinions, what I find annoying is when people talk like their opinions are facts. Like I've seen a lot of older audiences belittle younger audiences because they're "not old enough" or too "naive" to understand quote on quote "good humor", which is Tegridy Farms. They claim that they feel connected to Randy and say that they find him relatable. I mean no disrespect, but how tf can anyone relate to that clown? He's stupid, he's bland, he's negligent, he's full of himself, and used largely for toilet/shock comedy. I really don't see why Matt and Trey like this character so much. And I find myself annoyed by Gen Z audiences because a lot of them shit on the earlier seasons and often preach about how anything before 2000 is for grandmas and grandpas, and a lot of them embrace the newer episodes simply because they're modern.
The fangirls are COMPLETELY obsessed with male characters. They constantly make retarded fanart of incest-filled gay porn, they make extremely stupid headcanons (like for example I saw one theory that Kyle may be a transgender or a girl that identifies as a boy), and they always make fanfictions about many of the boy characters coming out. The worst victims of these fanfictions at least that I've seen are Kyle, Craig, Clyde, and Stan. Kyle is definitely the worst showcase of these fanfictions, like I've noticed that a lot of fanfictions Kyle is in that's written by a female fan, they either exaggerate his temper, or portray him as being overly weak and effeminate. And some fanfictions I've seen of Stan and Kyle, they often portray Stan as being this obnoxious macho gary stu and Kyle as a weak, cowardly, gold-digging, milquetoast crybaby. Not to mention that the fangirls tend to start shipping wars and shove gay pairings and LGBT OC characters down your throat. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally down for LGBT representation, in fact, I think Tweek and Craig's relationship is the healthiest relationship on the show, but I really think it should be written in a positive light and it shouldn't be forced, and I really don't like it when people shove their political agendas down my throat.
The fanboys are no better. I've noticed that a lot of them seem to be more aggressive and straightforward than the fangirls. Similarly to the fangirls, they also make extremely inappropriate fanart and fanfictions, but instead they use female children in their fanfictions and they tend to use straight pairings more often than the fangirls. And I noticed that a lot of Cartman fanboys tend to rip on characters like Kyle and Wendy for the sole fact that they are enemies of Cartman. I've also noticed that a lot of them try to share his opinions and thoughts, but the think they don't realize is that you can be a fan of a character without being a racist, bigoted asshole in real life.
Anyway those are my problems with the South Park fanbase, among other relatively minor issues. Do you agree with any of these? Have you noticed any of the examples I listed that the South Park fanbase exhibits? What are your thoughts about the South Park fanbase?
