But Alumi0nix what's your Opinions On Wendy's Fanbase?
Well, this probably take awhile as I have a lot to catch up on, but I know this is something which has to be done. I'm going to go for a more simple overall format. If you are not aware, ">" is meant to refer to a quote. The purpose of this is not to address every single little work and how it works within the larger picture. This is also directed at a mixture of other people, which I would make clearer but our poor Wiki moderators have far too much to read anyways.
>lol, wasn't expecting an entire essay as a response to my comment
It's the internet, expect anything. There are a plethora of people like me that will attack takes which may suffer from being quite low quality, or is full of holes and required refining.
>, I understand the children are not meant to be realistic
Yes, they are not meant to be. What you are proposing by making them realistic is completely and utterly changing the show on a fundamental level. It would simply not be South Park. What you would be proposing is a completely new show.
>What I was saying is that they could have had more development brought to Bebe's character
There has been no episode which really warranted this afterwards, besides maybe, for the List, there is little reason as to why Bebe needs to be developed as a main character unless an episode demands it. Simply put, in the universe of South Park there is no reason to have extensive development for characters, nor will there ever be.
>online troll can change your entire personality
People have killed themselves over this type of thing, it can lead to depression if you're made to feel like an outcast.
>lack of personality
The entire character of Heidi was revolving around how she came to social influence. This is made evident throughout the show.
>As I've mentioned before her personality is inconsistent because some episodes have her in a positive light and others in a negative light
Yes, because characters aren't exactly black and white. People can be both right and wrong dependent on the context. Eg, Hitler was bad because of World War 2 and the Holocaust, be he was also good for creating jobs.
>you never know what to expect from Wendy's character because she's full of surprises. So I don't really see how she's one of the most consistent character as you put it.
Because she's best described as a supporting character. Her purpose is to be able to help move the plot forward and to serve as comic relief.
>pointing things out that are rather obvious
Well, if they are so obvious how come you haven't took them into consideration, and accounted for them?
>I didn't say that all of the characters are poorly written just the female characters
Yes, and what I did was applied the logic to other characters. My point was about that this is a general problem within the show in how it is structured IF we are to look at it in any way that is not a comedy of its own format.
>And what gave you the impression that this post was a joke?
Mostly derived from the character of the OP as a person.
>Perhaps that special character focus is a part of what makes those seasons so great
Sort of. When it came to things like Casa Bonita and Scott Tenorman must die character was implicit in the comedy of the episodes.
But even still, there are examples of where this type of this has been attempted elsewhere and has fallen flat. This is most notable in the season 23 Randy episodes which tried to make use of the character purely for humor.
>opinion, the special was more like earlier times
Sort of, but Randy still had an important role in the first one and it could definitely be argued that the 2nd Special sort of dragged longer than it had needed to do so.
>First, I don't see why people would like a majority of the characters in South Park. Personally, I think what makes a good character is someone whose fleshed out, has motivations, and relatability. I like characters that are complex, has history and a background, and ones who actually feel human
You're watching the wrong show then. I can't make it any more direct than that.
>Like a lot of the characters in South Park are just there for laughs and/or social commentary with their stupidity, which is really only one defining character trait, how can you feel anything for characters that bland
Because you're not really meant to feel much. Well, not directly. There are ofcourse occasions that work beautifully for this kind of thing. Eg, Kenny dies because of how it was an excellent take on the classic joke of Kenny dying. This also made use of Cartman's personality which is a core part of the show. This is an example of it being warranted, which may not exist with some of the other characters.
>Also, they never grow or learn anything about their mistakes, which is why they never feel organic
Again, you may be watching the wrong show. This is not something that has really ever existed within the show in terms of a continuity. Plus, there are still childish aspects retained.
@General Von Klinkenhoffen TLDR: Once again you make fair points, but one sentence that definitely caught my attention is that you are suggesting that I am watching the wrong show, that is something you are certainly wrong on. Yes, there are several aspects I like about South Park, but the show is definitely not without its flaws, and a majority of the characters and their portrayal is one issue I have with the show. First, I don't know why you would advocate that I am watching the wrong show based on ONE issue I pointed out, and secondly I don't know about you, but like I said I just wish a majority of the characters weren't walking mouthpieces. And I don't let one issue I have with the show dictate my whole experience with it. And no offense but I think your argument about the show being satire and exaggeration is one I disagree with, because it's like you're saying you don't have to worry about good character development or structure, I apologize if this is not what you meant, but that's the impression I'm getting from you.
And once again, I am aware that this is a relatively minor priority I'm pretty sure the writers don't give a crap about, but I just like characters that behave and interact with one another organically. And like I said above, I very much like the satire on the show, but I feel that it could be more than that. What's wrong with proposing originality in a show you like? And why aren't you supposed to feel connected or feel anything for the characters? And a lot times these episodes come off like "I'm still relevant" or come off as a bit too wholesome and/or preachy. I'm not saying shows should never do messages or be wholesome, but sometimes as a viewer I go for the funny, I don't want to preached at all the time (I am not implying that South Park does this all the time, but still).
Now I don't want to have a heated conversation with any of you here, I respect all of your opinions and wish you can do the same for me.
If they are going to really bring Heidi back she needs some major improvements in her personality and make her stand out and unique. For Wendy, Bebe and Red they are the same person split in three different characters and Sophie she gets too much credit from fans she had one episode and she is like Wendy, Bebe and Red If they are going to move forward with her character then make her unique.
I always thought Wendy was nothing but a female counterpart to Kyle but they’re very different in terms of characterization and how they’re treated by their peers in the show.
@Zaquarvious (late reply sorry) i mean theres not much wrong but its the people who do crap like send death threats, harrasment and the people who go to the ends of the earth just to defend her is what makes her fanbase so toxic imo
With Bebe I think in season 6 episode Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society they were thinking on upgrading Bebe to major character status by rotating the fourth friend of the boys with Bebe being one of them and they gave her some character development (but did not complete it). At the end they decided on bringing Kenny back.
I seriously doubt that due to the fact that 1) South Park is a very male-dominated show, and I doubt they wanted to change that and 2) it was made very clear the boys only invited her due to her developing breasts, and they showed a complete lack of interest in her when she covered her chest at the end of the episode.
