I don’t hate Kyle but damn, many fans really hate him! Some people consider Kyle to be worse than Cartman and find him to be nothing but a sociopath.
It’s completely okay to hate a fictional character but some people truly don’t value Kyle, even the fans who like him only view Kyle as this angry and hypocritical asshole with no heart.
Nothing wrong about it as is just their opinion, but let’s now talk about hypocrisy in this fandom.
Almost any character from the show has supporters and people who want them to have a better portrayal, for example, there’s a tumblr blog owner who thinks that Shelly Marsh deserves a better viewing among fans, there’s people who believe characters like Pip and Gregory deserved better and I’m not going to talk about the dozens of character interpretations of Cartman where he is often depicted as being a sweet and friendly misunderstood boy who is relentlessly bullied by the boys.(seriously, we aren’t on 1997 anymore).
Kyle doesn’t get enough respect by most fans and this is a fact.
"but dude, is South Park! All the characters are meant to be assholes!"
I’m going to explain why this is a terrible excuse given by people who are not too fond of Kyle, like i said before, almost every single character of this show have admirers and supporters so why Kyle can’t have as well? Why can’t he be defended? Why people can’t write posts about Kyle getting more positive portrayals without being attacked?
I know this is going to sound weird but this actually come off as anti-semitism as Kyle is the main character with the least amount of positive portrayal in the fandom and even the creators sometimes reduce him into a complete idiot, which is partly their fault tbh.
I hope on the future we’ll get better portrayals of Kyle, but I really don’t know.
