Sometimes, I wish the South Park creators would stop caricaturing all of their female characters as being the same and that they would introduce an average/ normal-looking girl who wasn’t intended to be conventionally pretty, popular, or in a more negative light, two-faced and basic.
I’ve noticed a pattern of nearly every single female 4th grader in the series being characterized with the same attributes in some form or another- they are all supposed to be attractive, popular with their peers (more specifically the opposite sex), and have superficial interests and personality traits. While there are some girls in the series, such as Heidi Turner and Nichole Daniels, whom I do admit to liking and having a soft spot for, I still find the majority of the females in the series to be unlikable, and therefore unrelatable, to me.
Once they do end up introducing a certain new female character who could potentially fill the role of a more down-to-earth and modest girl-next-door type, she is still designed to be a conventionally attractive female that automatically wins the attention of several suitors and admirers for unexplained reasons, which I find incredibly unrealistic given the fact that she has a chronic illness that one of her male counterparts is constantly ripped on for. On a different note, whenever they do introduce a female character around the boys’ age who is shy, unconfident, or less popular overall, such as Lisa Berger, they make her appear homely-looking and give her less attractive traits and features, such as a frumpy, overweight appearance.
For once, I wish that they would introduce a female character who was just... normal. Not stereotyped as “overweight” and “Hollywood homely” due to their shyness, nor someone who is super good-looking and confident enough to become extremely overrated both within the series and by the fans themselves. I just wish there was a nice, average girl who was on the less popular side who could simply be well-meaning and unassuming, but relatable enough to the audience due to her flaws.
It would be an added bonus if she were a little nerdy, quirky, and awkward sometimes and were someone who didn’t have the superficial qualities and interests that I see in the majority of the 4th grade girls. I would want this girl to just be an ordinary person who was neither super pretty and self-assured nor homely-looking and unconfident, but just someone who was a good friend and true to themselves. I could even see this type of character as a “naive every girl” of sorts, which is also a common trope in fiction, by the way. It would also be nice if she didn’t necessarily have a large group of friends and preferred hanging out with some of the boys at times, like Kevin Stoley, Butters, or Scott Malkinson, perhaps.
I don’t mean to offend anyone on here with my views, as these are just opinions, but I just wish there was a normal girl in the series for once who could just be relatable to the audience, without having to be super pretty and attract a lot of admirers and fans for no reason. I wish there were nicer female characters in the series too who weren’t catty, jealous, or competitive. Again, I don’t mean this to trigger anyone in a negative way, as I know many of you are fans of the current main girls.
