@HeidiTurnerStan I would rank them the same as you. Season 2 would definitely be my least favourite of these. Trey and Matt said that they were actually not too fond of season 2, with the only episode they liked from that season being "Not Without my Anus".
@Irrewonderful I remember them saying something like that too. I didn't hate Season 2, but I disliked quite a few episodes. The ones I liked most were "Clubhouses", "Ike's Wee Wee", "Summer Sucks", and "The Mexican Staring Frog of Southern Sri Lanka". I think Season 1 has too many classic episodes to be put at the bottom and I think that the series got better with each Season 3 and onward (until 6, but that's another story).
I did not think it was a bad season, but it was rather lacking, with maybe one or two good episodes here and there. I like it more than seasons 15, 19 and certainly better than 20 and 23. I also agree with Trey and Matt when they say "Not Without my Anus" is a rather good episode, I find it the best of Season 2.
@Irrewonderful I agree. With Season 2 consisting of 18 episodes and only about a fourth of them being good was rather disappointing. While I haven't seen Seasons 15 and 19 recently enough to remember them all that well, I think they were kind of lacking. If it wasn't for Season 2, Season 3 would have little to improve on to build the series even more! I like "Terrance and Phillip in Not Without My Anus" too, it's probably the best "Canadian" episode.
Here's my ranking:
Season 4
Season 5
Season 3
Season 1
Season 2
Season 4 just had so many memorable episodes! All the 2000's, Cartman Joins Nambla, Chef Goes Nanners, the Hell two-parter... I could go on! My favorite is probably Hellen Keller! The Musical.
Season 5 used to be my second favorite season next to season 6, but I don't know, I just loved more of season 4's episodes. The second half was definitely its strongest point in my opinion, with my favorites being Towelie, Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants, The Entity, and Kenny Dies (which actually made me cry.)
Season 3 was just fine. What sets it above seasons 1 and 2 for me is mostly the meteor shower 3-parter, but regardless it was a good season overall.
I used to consider season 1 my least favorite, because the pacing of the episodes just felt off to me. But after rewatching it, I found that that was really only an issue in the first 4 or so episodes. It gets much better from An Elephant Makes Love to a Pig and onwards. Certainly a little rough around the edges, but better than I remembered. Starvin' Marvin is by far my favorite episode.
No disrespect to season 2, but I just think it falls short in comparison to the others. I loved Chickenpox and Spookyfish, but I don't really remember anything else.
@HeidiTurnerStan Did you not like season 6? It still remains my personal favorite, so I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
@Applebaby12 I definitely didn't hate it, I just didn't really like the first half all that much. I really liked "Bebe's Boobs Destroy Society", "Child Abduction Is Not Funny", "A Ladder to Heaven" and "The Death Camp of Tolerance". I really liked Season Five so I felt that it was a little downgrade from the previous season. Far from bad, definitely not the mess Season 20 was.
@HeidiTurnerStan Interesting! It could just be that season 6 was where I really started getting into South Park. The boys really started getting some character development, especially Kyle, who ended up being my favorite. I also just really liked the whole Kenny possessing Cartman thing; I don't know why, but the story really just worked for me. Maybe it was because it satisfied my desire for events to carry over from one episode to another, without going over-the-top with it like in season 19? I wasn't really taking the show seriously up until this point, basically.
I definitely agree, the second half was certainly its strongest point, (though that could be said for several of the other seasons, too.)
What do you think?
