I will have respectfully disagree with your points.
"I know, but Kyle really could have this idea before the townspeople decided to donate money to his parents, but it’s a bit suspicious that Kyle immediately wanted to bring his brother back again after Cartman confronted him, he just wanted to avoid more problems."
Yes, Kyle did have this idea before the townspeople decided to donate money to his parents, but it's not Kyle's fault the townspeople were going to be very generous towards his family. He didn't didn't know the town was going to be sympathetic when they learned about Ike being taken awake. Kyle was trying to his friends to go the Canada with him but they brushed him off because they rather be celebrating Christmas.
Kyle:Guys. [the other boys turn to face him] Guys, I need your help.
Stan: Sure dude.
Kyle:It's been a week since Ike's been gone, and every day my parents seem worse. I have to try to go to Canada and speak with the new Canadian Prime Minister, but I can't do it alone.
Cartman:We can't go to Canada, dumbass! It's Christmas!
Stan: Yeah, dude. What if we miss out on some great Christmas adventure?
Kyle:Please, you guys, you don't understand. [walks off some distance] My family is devastated. My mom just walks around the house like a zombie, and my dad can't stop crying.
Cartman:Well, I didn't wanna say anything, Kyle, but I think this is what your family gets for being Jewish at Christmastime.
Cartman: I'm just saying, maybe Jesus is having a little revenge, that's all.
Kyle:[returns] I found the number for a really cheap airline to Canada. If we go as soon as possible, then-
Stan: [interrupts]:Dude, we just can't up and go to Canada. Look, they're about to light the Christmas tree. Maybe you can get your brother back some other way.
[he, Cartman and Kenny leave. Cartman stops and returns]
Cartman:Kyle, I just want you to know, if it were any other time of the year, I still wouldn't help you. [walks off in the direction of the other boys. Kyle walks off sadly in the other direction]
In the end Kyle has the hurt look that says "I can't believe my friends are going to leave me hanging like that." I don't think Kyle gave up. I think he would've eventually flew to Canada to rescue Ike all by himself, like would have to in future episodes because he know now he can't always depend on his friends for help. In This is their conversation after the meeting and the mayor cancels Christmas.
Cartman:You fucking asshole!! This is all your fault!!
Cartman:Everyone's gonna be charitable and give money to your family instead of buying Christmas presents!!
[Stan and Kenny walk in behind him] You fucking Jews ruined Christmas again!!
[lunges after Kyle] AAAAAA!!
[Stan and Kenny jump in and hold him back]
Stan: Whoa whoa, Cartman.
Cartman: It wasn't enough for you people to kill Jesus, now you have to kill Christmas too, huh?!
Stan: Cartman, calm down!
Kyle:[to Stan] Is that true?
Stan: It's true, dude. Christmas is ruined.
Cartman: [takes off his mittens and coat] This is it, Kyle. You and me. We're throwin' down. Right now.
Kyle: I'm sorry you guys, but there is something we can do. We can go to Canada and see the Prime Minister like I said. If we can change his mind before Christmas, then your parents won't have to give my family money.
Cartman: You really think if we go to Canada we might still get Christmas presents?
Kyle: It's worth a shot. Come on, you guys, we can do this.Stan:Oh all right, but we'd better not miss out on great Christmas adventures.
Kyle:[reassuring] We'll get back in time for a Christmas adventure.
Cartman: Fine. But if it doesn't work, you and me are gonna have it out, Kyle. Once and for all.
You see, it isn't until the whole town agrees to cancel Christmas and have nothing to look forward to that the other boys realize how serious the situation is and decide hear Kyle out. Kyle is then able to convince to boys to help him find Ike. Kyle isn't scared of Cartman (or anyone for that matter). He isn't fazed by Cartman. being mad at him. He knows Cartman is full of shit, and if you've seen the very end of the episode, it shows that Cartman is all bark and no bite.
I know he wasn’t scared of Cartman, but he still was being a little selfish.
How Kyle’s parents reacted when Ike got taken away? They cried and got depressed.
How Kyle reacted when Ike got taken away? He initially got mildly upset and then, he only started to get worried for real after one week! Because his parents started to get worse.
If Kyle really cared about Ike, he would cry along with his parents, and then, attempt to get Ike by his own.
Also, he didn’t learn to get Ike by his own, in Dead Celebrities, he spent half of the episode talking with Cartman instead of focusing on helping his brother and the only episode that he tried to get Ike back by his own was on Fatbeard, and he got easily captured.
In Taming Strange, he tried to help Ike not because Kyle cares about him and Ike growing up apart, but because his brother was annoying him.
2. "If Kyle really cared about Ike, he would cry along with his parents, and then, attempt to get Ike on his own."
What the hell would crying and moping with his parents do to solve problem? Just because Kyle didn't break down and start sobbing when Ike was taken away doesn't mean he doesn't care. If anything this episode shows that the only person who gives a shit about Ike is...Kyle. What about Gerald and Sheila? His freaking parents? Did they go travel all through Canada to confront the prime minister about Ike's with parents? Nooope. I don't see why they couldn't. They just bawled and did nothing like their tears were magically bring Ike back. They completely gave up on their son.
Kyle: Dad, can't we talk to this new Canadian Prime Minister? If he knew the situation, he might e-
Gerald: Oh! Kyle, appealing to the Prime Minister of Canada would take... time and money we don't have.
They just made weak excuses and brushed Kyle off just like his friends did. What kind of parents don't have time and money for their own son? It's Hannakah. It's implied that the Broflovskis are middle class or really well off. So I don't see why they couldn't at least travel along with Kyle to Canada to get Ike back, instead of wallowing in their own misery.
Harry (Ike's biological father): We're going to take good care of him.
Kyle: You better.
This scene alone should tell you Kyle does indeed care about Ike and what happens to him. Kyle say this in a threatening tone. If Kyle didn't care about Ike, he probably would've said something in the like of "Whatever. He's not my responsibility anymore." But he didn't. He threatened Harry because Kyle loves Ike more than anything and there will be hell to pay if something happens to him.
And Kyle did cry about Ike in this episode (when the Prime Minister's doorman refuses to let Kyle see the prime minister). I think Kyle didn't cry in the beginning because he probably had some hope about getting Ike back and had to be strong for his parents when saying goodbye to Ike, since they both were distraught emotional wrecks at that point.
Kyle is stronger and tougher than people give him credit for. Kyle is the type of person who does't cry until the situation is completely hopeless (like the doorman refusing Kyle to talk to the prime minister, thus dashing all of Kyle's hopes of ever seeing Ike again).
3. "Also, he didn’t learn to get Ike by his own, in Dead Celebrities, he spent half of the episode talking with Cartman instead of focusing on helping his brother and the only episode that he tried to get Ike back by his own was on Fatbeard, and he got easily captured."
Yes, there are episodes in the later seasons where the boys help Kyle with whatever problems he and and Ike have but reluctantly because (a) they're bored or (b) out of their selfish reasons and indulgence. (Ex. Cartman didn't want to help Kyle in Dead Celebrities until he heard Ike was communicating with the ghost of Billy Mays). Also , I don't what Kyle talking to Cartman in the during the episode (He still spent the majority of the helping Ike/Michael Jackson) and him getting easily captured has to do with anything but he still accomplished his goal and saved Ike regardless.
4. "In Taming Strange, he tried to help Ike not because Kyle cares about him and Ike growing up apart, but because his brother was annoying him."
No. Just no. Please rewatch the episode. Not once did Kyle get annoyed or angry when Ike humiliated Kyle in front of whole class, calls him stupid, or a wuss. Kyle was very patient and concerned about Ike while Ike hurled verbal abuse at him at every scene he was in. He help because he knew something was very wrong with Ike and he wasn't himself.
Yeah, you’re right, i was being a douchebag, is that I’ve seen complaints from fans and i got angry and tired of defending a character that was hated by many fans.
Hey people we all have different views and that's okay. Let's be kind to one another. We can engage in friendly debate but let's not get too worked up 🙂
I have to say that I was very confused when I saw this post. I thought you really were a true Kyle fan like myself. You're one of the very few South Park fans that stick up for Kyle and call out people who portray him as terrible person. But here you're acting like those who demonize Kyle? The same people who you rant about on here, Tumblr, Deviantart, etc?
Why would you want to join the Kyle hate bandwagon if you're a Kyle fan? Do you no longer want to be a Kyle fan? I could be totally wrong (and you can correct me on this) but I get the feeling you don't genuinely like Kyle (or you used to like him) and are regurgitating other people's opinions (and shitty analysis imo) to justify your new, sudden disdain for him.
I'm sorry if this sounds harsh. I don't mean to be but I really hope this response opens your eyes makes you think about things, but you're coming off as a big hypocrite right now. On Tumblr, you slam people for not acknowledging Kyle's good qualities and deeds but on this site you are no better than the Kyle haters who overanalyze and make things up to make him seem like a bad character/person.
I just got sick of constantly defending him and being criticized by people, there’s was actually some fans who thought i was being too worked up over Kyle or taking a cartoon like South Park way too seriously.
I don’t think Kyle is perfect, but i do think he’s a genuinely good person who strongly values his family and friends, but the large majority of the fandom doesn’t see him that way, i’ve met people(especially on sites such as TheTopTens and Tumblr) that truly believes Kyle is a self-righteous asshole and nothing more, so, my interest on Kyle decreased quite a bit, but the games and TVTropes were also the reason why i almost gave up on him, TVTropes even claims that Kyle is a sociopathic hero!
I thought i was being too whiny about a fictional character and that the Kyle haters were right all long, i thought i was the only one who deeply cared about Kyle’s characterization or didn’t reduced him into an insensitive jerk(at the very least, i never portrayed him as a heartless psychopath or relied on old South Park fanfic cliches such as "Kyle is fatphobic and a big brother bully" in most of my fanfics and fan arts), so, i decided to change for the better, because i got sick of complaining and being defensive of a character that is hated by so many people in this fandom.
But after seeing your comment and how you gave actual proof that Kyle really cares for Ike, I’ve noticed I’m not alone, i just wished that more people could see that Kyle is not a horrible person.
What do you think?
